Alternative reads to Fifty Shades of grey.

I love erotic fiction, works a million times better that actually porn for me. But I could not read fsog I tried got through the first book but the writing itself is terrible! And the characters are as deep as a puddle.

I was wondering if anyone had read a book with a similar idea but that has actually been written by someone who knows how to write?

I've recently read KUSHIELS SCION and the following books by Jaqueline Carey and was very impressed by them. If anybody out there likes fantasy books with a fair amount of sword fighting (Not a euphemism ;) and a lot of really kinky goings on they are a must read. They don't focus entirely on sex so theres a great deal of substance to them and I think if you took everything raunchy out of the book it would still be able to stand its own. Not that you'd want to mind cause the sex scenes are truly something else!

So suggestions please on other books I can buy that will get pulses racing? Xx

The Diary of a Submissive (sold on Lovehoney) is well worth a read :)

It's the author's true story of how she got in to BDSM, the sex scenes aren't as graphic as some other books but the writing is fantastic and the psychological aspect of what she describes is a big turn on if you're into that stuff. And because it's a true story, it doesn't seem ridiculous or unrealistic to read.

Thanks Boogaloo it sounds right up my street, but I just had a look and its out of stock! :P

Added to my wishlist to purchase in the future though! :D

And its sequel, No Ordinary Love Story, that's even better than the original, in my opinion.

I recommend also The Boss series, by Abigail Barnett. It's a sane, safe and consensual take on Fifty Shades, the stories have some common elements, like the charming millionaire and the younger (way younger) employee, but after the first ten pages they diverge completely. I've read up to the third book, I have the fourth and I think there's a fifth incoming so it's a quite long series.

I don't mean any offence to the authors. But erotic fiction+deep, well rounded characters and great writing style don't really go together! There's a lot of hate for FSOG for it's 'awful writing' but honestly to me they're all as bad/good as each other in that respect :p

There is a series by Tara Sue Me, first book is called The Submissive. It's a pretty similar story to the FSOG one in many ways but the characters had a little more feel to them, if that makes sense. They used to sell it here but not anymore apparently! Three part series, first book at least is worth a read. If you liked the concept of FSOG you may enjoy it :)

I can highly recommend books by either Tiffany Reisz or Cherise Sinclair. I agree with Lovebirds that it is so hard to find deep characters in erotic fiction, but Tiffany Reisz has written some great erotica, where you really buy into the characters too, as they have such a depth to them, which makes such a refreshing change for me xx

Ahhh going to have to get the kindle out of the cuboard me thinks!!

Thanks GeekyEleanor and Lovebirds_x they both sound like they're worth a read, exstatic that theres whole series to be had out there, I'm a fast reader so I like to have either a uber-novel or a proper series to sink my teeth into so that I can fully immerse myself for a few weeks!

Excited now, looks like I'm not going to be short of things to read for a while!

I will have a gander at those authors Scorpius12 they sound promising!! :D

I found The Diary of a Submissive badly written too. Might be more realistic (if it's a true story or not), but I would not call it an erotic novel anyway as judged by the writing style, it seems just that, a diary. I would however be tempted to read the sequel, so thanks for mentioning it Eleanor.

I've also read the trilogy by Tara Sue Me which has now become a series (just like the FSOG is not a trilogy anymore as they try to cash in some more on it...). After the three initial books there was a short novel only available as an e-book and then a fourth that was supposed to come out this past April (I don't know if it did), and another one this July. And it seems the author just wants to keep 'em coming... However, I've read the first three and the e-book short story, and though I did like it better as to writing and characters compared to FSOG as Lovebirds said, it was still a bit like reading the same book all over again. So I consider both the FSOG and The Submissive series a waste of paper, really. (I only ever read the FSOG around last year as I wanted to be able to argument on my own in the big debate around it.)

I had so many books I couldn't find places to keep them as I hate to let a book go, so I bought a kindle which only has erotica or sexy romance on it. Try Carmens New York Triolgy by Nikki Sex, The Payment Series by Cassandra Carr or Rod of Correction by Carolyn Faulkner.
