Attitudes to sex in different generations

One thing I love about the forum, is the age leveling interaction about sex between people of considerably differing ages. This makes me think deep down there wasn’t really that much of a difference in the past to today’s attitudes ( I know there are many varying attitudes today).
What does everyone else think… or is it just more open to discussion today.

I think sex and sexuality has been normalised more, definitely in the last 10 years. The Tinder thing still oversteps the boundaries that I personally had in my youth, but I’m sure that this seemingly blasé coupling went on even though I was oblivious (ah, the sweet innocence of days gone by).

In some ways I think I was more promiscuous in the 80’s than some young people today.
Certainly the initial interaction was more straightforward. Today there seems to be more stages to the establishment of a relationship. I think social media has added a few to it.

At 63, I guess I qualify as one of those older people now. I’d say it’s the “deep down” bit that clinches it. Of course we had our kinks and fantasies, but most of us were conditioned to repress the fuck out of them and feel thoroughly furtive and guilty about it all. It was HORRIBLE and I wouldn’t wish to ever see those attitudes reign again.

Also, there was no readily available porn or discussion forums to normalise or feed such fantasies, and - rather as in Orwell’s 1984 - if you are denied the language to describe a concept and/or the social space in which to air it, it becomes effectively impossible to conceptualise it at all.

Example: if you’d asked the teenage me about anal sex, I’d have told you that it was something only gay men did because there was no other hole to stick it in - and as for doing it with a woman… WHAT?? (a) no woman would ever let you and (b) why the hell would you want to anyway?

Attitudes have changed massively since my youth - I’m enormously glad to say! :+1:

I was never in to anal sex, but keep an open mind…you are right though, when I was younger it was something more regarded as a male homosexual activity and rather hard-core in terms of porno movies.

I think openness in talking about sex and exploring has become way more freely in modern times than it was in the past as people back then were more reserved in keeping sex a hush word during conversations especially between sexes.

Further to what @PleasureDrone said, i was shocked to read when i was a teenager that anal was seen as an alternative to vaginal sex for women in Catholic marriages to prevent pregnancy.
I am almost 58 and definitely think things are more open, with information freely available nowadays.

The Internet is to blame (and thank) for a lot of changes to openess and attitudes. On the positive side it’s enabled discussion between a wider audience rather than decades ago when everything you knew and learnt cane from family, friends and personal acquaintances. This also shaped a lot of perceptions regarding certain activities and behaviour whereas now the curious can explore in private without fear of ridicule and abuse from those they know. Its not all good though. The net has given people the ability to troll those with different attitudes and views anonymously so for every benefit there’s a downside.

Ain’t that the truth.!!

I really do enjoy and appreciate reading the views and experiences of members of all ages on this forum. I’m I’m my 50’s and have learned a lot on LH .

I think the attitudes is a generation thing. I was a youngster during the 70’s and sex was never mentioned, I’m now nearly 60 and am still waiting for the birds and bees discussion. Wife bought up with, you have sex to produce children. Nothing else. I have developed a very open mind and can relate to the 20 yer olds, wife still has many of the old generation attitudes

It’s interesting when you look at a broader historical context, because the wider you cast the net the clearer it becomes that extremely puritanical attitudes towards sex and gender are actually the minority of human history.

Yes we are enlightened in the internet age. However there existed enlightened people in the older generation. My mum and dad were extremely enlightened. They were and are naturists which introduced me to it and gave me body confidence seeing all the varieties of different men and women. They had sex in the sea which my older and wiser sister informed me. Being an inquisitive child I asked my mum what they were doing in the sea and instead of an embarrassing response she told me about the facts of life. As an adolescent I could ask her anything and she sometimes explained things I didn’t ask about such as anal sex can be both a homosexual and a heterosexual act. My parents must be doing this as she explained about the need for lube and gentleness. She even had a conversation about period sex! So I know that there were people as enlightened in the older generation as we believe we are today.

All credit to your parents for being so open. If i can ask? What age group do your parents fall in to.
I have a feeling they are similar in age to me.
I wouldn’t quite call me a naturist, but both my wife and I , enjoy being naked and will visit nudist beaches while on holiday rather than any other beach.
We do indulge in sex in the sea as well.

I went to uni in the early 2000s and I think that was an interesting time because it was (just) pre social media and at a time where most people had the internet in their homes. This meant when people arrived at uni they were used to watching online porn and started to explore various fantasies. It was quite an experimental time, but then that makes me think how is that different to the swinging 60s for example? The bit of having no social media was definitely a big difference. It seemed more relaxed going out and meeting people, and they didn’t seem to care so much about how they looked (partly because nobody had smartphones or were going to share photos so readily).

All of the girls at uni I slept with at uni had fully shaved pubic areas which I think is 100% down to the aforementioned porn. Anal was also something many of them wanted to explore, again possibly due to porn. In fact I believe people who are now that age (18-21) are going back to natural pubic hair…I guess after 2 decades attitudes change.

I’m not sure if porn did have an effect on pubic shaving. I think women have just become more and more particular about grooming in general. The idea of wearing skimpy shorts and any pubic hair showing would horrify them.
I have noticed that women of all ages who appear on Naked Attraction are more often fully shaved.
Fashions and attitudes change for various reasons.

My parents are mid fifties. The naturist lifestyle was also practiced at home so for my sister and brother and me it was quite normal to be naked even around the house. I suppose you could consider my parents as later hippies. Even today we have quite frank conversations which at first shocked my husband but now he finds them quite natural.

Yes I was right on my guess about your parents age group.
At home we are relaxed about nudity and allowed or children to determine when they decided the wanted to cover up and have their own space. If my kids come in to our room and we are naked, it is not an issue for us or them.
We don’t however expect them to be as relaxed as regards their own state of dress , that is for them to choose.
