This has been covered in lots of previous threads, if the ring doesn't constrict blood flow when flaccid it isn't an issue. Solid rings are loose when the penis isn't erect.

Sounds like a good reason to start large and work down in diameter/circumference until the comfort zone is reached where it constricts when the penis is erect (but doesn't hurt) and also allows the blood out after.
