We always do anal without protection. If im anticipating anal i will go to the loo beforehand and then have a shower and take a suction cup dildo with me to stretch me a little and helps clean abit more.
The key to not getting a urine infection is to have a pee strait after. This flushes any bacteria out. We both do this and have never had an infection to date.
With the right person, anal can be amazing. Sadly to many people experience it with the wrong person and it puts you off.
Of course for some people, it just isnt for them.

We don’t use condoms for anal and we never have PIV afterwards. We’ve usually had PIV, and oral and then have anal as the finale!
I have always made sure I’ve had a poo earlier and showered. If I haven’t, it’s off limits. The same for anal toys.

With my wife’s struggles to reach orgasm lately, adding some anal play could bridge the gap and make her able to get off easier. I would love to try anal with her too, as it’s not something we have not tried. Bringing the subject up feels difficult for me since we don’t often talk about sex. We did have some conversation yesterday regarding her experiences of pain during intercourse, and I told her we could do many things besides PIV or change how we were doing it to make her more comfortable. I told her pain is a sign we need to do things differently, and is never something to endure just to please me. NEVER!

@ben85 and @maz1965 thanks so much for that, especially as it’s a very personal matter, as someone who has a lot of bladder infections I’m looking at it from that point of view. Also me and douches don’t get on, I think I end up making more of a mess! 
I use a portable bidet that goes on the toilet after business and I think it’s a really good idea to keep things squeaky clean externally and it has helped me with the infections a bit. But might help save showering beforehand? Just a thought X good idea with the dildo as well.
