Another thing you could consider is an inflatable dildo. it isn't hard unlike other toys so it will be gentle on you. The small one here is only an inch wide so would be ideal, plus you can pump it up wider to open you up a bit and give you more pleasure when you get used to having something inside you. If I was starting all over again from the beginning that's what I would buy - hard toys can be a strain for the first timer.
