Hi! I'm new here!

Helloooo

Hey Nathan! Lovely to hear from you and welcome to the forum

Welcome to the forum Nathan

Evening and welcome :pink_heart:

Welcome in mate! I’m from the UK and a bit of an aviation nerd too. Mostly military though as I’m fortunate to live under LFA7 (check out the Mach Loop on YouTube, I live under part of that).

I hope you meet some lovely people on here!

Excellent recommendation on Sam’s channel!

He’s such a likeable guy and his production quality is better than TV - I’m hoping we see the Typhoon soon @Rusty89 :crossed_fingers:

Hello and welcome

Hi and welcome Nathan. I’m pretty new here too, it’s a really friendly and welcoming forum.

@user2128 Hello and welcome to the forums . Not too much of an aviation nerd , however I am a retired machinist and did work on a couple of aircraft you may have heard of . 707 , E-3 , 727 , 737 , 757 , 767 , KC-46 Pegasus , 747 , 777 , along with machining the molds for several stealth bombers . I only have limited time in private aircraft . The most time is a Cessna 172 , followed by Piper 142 , with very limited time in a Mooney M20 , by far the best performing aircraft of the GA lot .

@Oldman
Very nice! You must have really enjoyed working on many aircraft over the years!
Do you follow any good YouTube channels? Any recommendations?

Oddly I do not follow any specific . Though I do see something of special interest every now and again . As in many manufacturing plants across the world , management always wishes for you to produce faster and us tolerances . While us trades people strive for near perfection . They tried to fire me twice for doing my job too well . Then when they would have a machine , programming problem or operator error they would come get one of us older operators to try and save the parts . I would bring up it would take longer than the allotted time . Least expensive parts I ever cut was around $7,000 and we cut left and right at same time . Most expensive I cut cost $54,000 +/_ . Funnest - best day ever was a Saturday and when I came in the night shift had made a bit of an error that would have destroyed both parts and done extensive damage to the $18,000,000 milling machine and tooling . I spotted the problem and saved the day . Weekend boss was a buddy and witnessed my work . He gave me the rest of the double time day off with pay . I became a legend with the newer people . Been retired over 10 years now .

@Oldman
Being fired for doing your job too well? That’s crazy!
You obviously really cared about doing your job corectly and follow the rules.

Tried to guess how many people have flown on jets I made parts for , I worked there 36 years . I stopped calculating at around 8 billion .
Here is a favorite video of best test pilot several years ago . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra_khhzuFlE
