That’s sadly the modern world now as people film it to capture the moment so they can look back and say they were there and to show off to others to self validate their presence.
On the flip side you’d be surprised many musicians don’t mind it cause it’s like a sea of stars all shining back at them and they find joy in knowing their gig is going to be promoted vastly through socials by all these fans filming it and in turn it boosts their presence on the social networks…
It’s maybe more appreciated by smaller gigs with groups who are trying to get a foot up in the industry as you’d basically be promoting them by posting and tagging on socials videos of it which is free publicity
With your friend I guess you could make a light joke to say why not just live in the moment but ultimately if they wanna record some of it to remember and show others then that’s their happy choice, as long as you have a good time too and enjoy the show
Phones at concerns sure are annoying, but phones at RTC’s/crime scenes are even worse in my opinion. I’m a first aider and a few years ago (pre-COVID) I helped a lady who got hit by a drunk driver and trapped between two cars. I’m in full witness/first aider mode: noted the offender’s registration (he panicked and drove off), kids in the hit car (got someone else to check on them), assessed and reassured the lady and stayed with her until the ambulance arrived. Emergency response was fortunately very prompt and handover was fairly breezy (no serious injuries, just shaken and bruised). Once I was out of crisis mode and I knew there was nothing more I could do, I noticed a group of about 5 onlookers recording on their phones like they worked for the BBC. It disgusted me: there was a lady injured and kids distressed by the actions of one drunken man, and all these people could think to do was film it?
Yes, the drunk got caught and prosecuted. If I remember correctly, he was a repeat offender who’d not long come out of clink.
