So, I was reading some news articles and as the headline suggested I had mixed feelings about a few of them and figured I would share. My emotions ranged from.. WHAT?! Are you kidding me?! To I quit life.
What the heck?! I just— I can't— I don't even! orz
Absolutely ridiculous; the one that you posted is shocking, SS.
And I'm not surprised that you quit life at that point, FA. I find it ridiculous that they'd take apostrophes off of street signs and out of street names for something so stupid. D:
HAHA CC, the OH just got a rant about the street signs one for about 20minutes before he stated he was going out, since he can see this turning into another Scrabble fiasco and when they added those words to the scrabble dictionary to make the game more appealing for kids. My soul died that day.
Kinda like the idea of a mannequin with pubic hair, shows you what the underwear might actually look like on (for those people who prefer to keep their hair natural or just trimmed)
Looking at the relevant article, it seems that the action by Haribo needs to be seen in the context of more significant problems regarding the same racial groupings that have greatly heightened sensitivities in that area.
How can a sweet be racist? Well, in context, since it can't entertain racist thoughts, it might be so-labelled if it contributed to negative racist stereotypes or denigration. I don't know if others here are aware of some of the mistakes of earlier generations, but if someone were to market 'little black sambo' liquorice sweets I think we would have a problem.
The UKIP guy? C'est a rire! Yet, worryingly, they appear as this nation's most popuar party in some recent poll. (No details of the way questions were phrased and categories constructed though.) Now THAT is real WTF? news.
The whole sweets being rasist thing makes me question peoples thinking.... because surely removing a certain colour from the mix, is actually discriminating in itself.
Beyond that most news stories make me go WTF lol... and then i remember why I don't read newspapers and watch the news.
The fact that people are paid to come up with this tosh. Does anybody remember the moving statue at Manchester museum? http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-25005916 When I first saw this I said it's just vibration from footfall and traffic on the main road adding to the fact the statue won't have a perfectly flat balanced base. A few months later I read that a specialist firm were brought in to study why this was happening. Results, footfall and vibration from traffic couple with the old statue not having a flat base caused the rotation. Sometimes you don't have to, you know what I mean.
