So I’m now on the mini pill. I was on the combined pill for quite a while but they said I needed to come off it due to me gaining weight. I had an implant in about a year ago and had to get it taken out due to constantly spotting. My concern here is the mini pill and the nexplanon implant are both the same hormones so does this mean I’ll spot the whole time I’m on the mini pill like I did with the implant? I’m on my first week and I am already spotting a little bit. What’s your experiences with this type of birth control? Also not sure what category I should have put this in.
Maybe keep tabs with your doctor so they know if your getting similar symptoms and wether it’s normal 
Hey @sharbur, I’m on cerelle (I was originally on cerazette but they switched me a few years in). I’ll try to be as honest as possible so you get the overall idea of what to expect. I’ve been on this particular mini pill for 14 years. This was my only option as oestrogen triggers my migraines, so the combined pill for me wasn’t approved.
When I first started this pill, the first month was absolutely horrific. I had a constant period, not light bleeding, full on period for like 30 days, then it all of a sudden just stopped. I had the most crazy mood swings and I felt angry for 80% of the time. I think I actually punched a few walls and was on the brink of doing some serious damage to myself. However, after that it was like a switch. No mood swings, I felt completely level headed, no periods ever again.
For the first wee while, I did find I had to take it at pretty much the exact same time within a 30 minute leeway period. Anytime after that and I’d have break through light bleeding. Now, because I’ve been on it so long, I can get away with a few hours difference and I’ve still been protected.
My sexual desires plummeted for a few years on this and urgh, I had no desire for anything. Now, I’m a raging bull and will wank everyday and I’m horny alot of the time, but this did take ages to come back for me.
Vaginal dryness is the killer point for me on this. No matter how turned on I am, I really struggle to get wet. I had to always use lube to have sex, if I don’t it is extremely painful and burny.
I found doing low carb/keto caused me to also get break through bleeding or a full on day of period bleeding. Not sure how it linked, but that’s how it went for me.
I gained about 2.5-3 stone on this, so if the doctors think it isn’t going to happen with this pill as well, I think they’re in denial. Everyone I know who is on this, has had some form of weight gain.
If you can get through the first month, it is a worth while pill to stay on. I hope things level out for you

Absolutely horrific to be honest. Really severe depression, I was in such a bad place I wanted to end my life on a few occasions and I nearly did a couple of times. I fell pregnant on it. I had every single symptom when I was on it. The amount of weight I gained on it was ridiculous. The best decision I made was coming off of it. Never again would I go back on it.
I was on the mini, many years ago and I had some sort of bleeding constantly for a year, really low mood and I turned really nasty, I’m surprised Mr 0 stuck by me to be completely honest I got that bad. Even though I could see it I could not control it, Every time I spoke with the nurse about it, I just got fobbed off and told give it time, even after a year so I took myself off them.
Hopefully you have a better experience

I take the norgeston mini pill and have been on it for many years. I get on with it. My periods are very few and far between and vary in heaviness but i have PCOS and this type of pill helps with my hormone balance caused by it.
Id ssy just give it some time and see how you get on. Everyone is different and will react differently
