Pride events

Afternoon all,

I used to work for Pride In London and yesterday found that the 2021 Parade has been cancelled (as was 2020’s).

I’ve recently moved to an area which is hosting its first (its about time :wink: ) Pride event at the end of the month - woo! I’ve got my ticket.

Have many people been affected by the cancelled events? Are you guys still attending the ongoing ones, or not chancing it due to C-19?
Are their other ways to support LGBTQ+ communities while public health awareness is still at its height, without restricting it to online-only events?

Hi @Turtles and welcome aboard. :slightly_smiling_face:

I live in Norwich, where this year we had an entirely virtual Pride: a programme of events happening on zoom etc., but I must confess I didn’t really get involved in it (I attend too many things on zoom anyway and it’s doing my brain in!). Very much looking forward to getting back to the real deal in '22. A friend of mine has just been to the (real life) Durham Pride and had a fabulous time - I’m envious!

@PleasureDrone thank you :slight_smile:

Ah my go-to reply was “come to Crawley Pride!” but thats a bit far from Norwich XD I couldnt really do any of the online events for Pride In London due to a shockingly poor internet connection, I’m lucky to have a live event happening!

I have been involved in smaller Pride events over the years, variously organising, running stuff on the day and visiting. Now we are in a different part of the country, I’ll need to find out what is going on and where, and possibly get involved next year.

Hi and I know Darlington has just had there’s today, Newcastle??? Think it was on, not sure

Not something ive been to before, not sure if im quite there yet but i like the idea of going. Newquay has one apparently, i think it was last month. but i wouldnt go at the moment, Not with everything as it is

Think the pride event here is still going ahead which If it was my thing I wouldn’t see any issue in attending :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve not been to Birmingham Pride for years. It’s become a bit too commercialised for my liking in recent years. I’m interested on maybe going along to smaller pride events I nearby cities next year, but for the rest of this year I will be avoiding large gatherings etc.

I’ve only been to Pride once and it was a bit of a miserable experience. I had to go alone and deal with my mother’s homophobia before and after and I felt very upset and isolated the entire time. I don’t know if they’ve done anything for Pride around here in covid times because I didn’t bother to look. I hope to attend again one day, but not until I have someone to go with and don’t have to answer to my parents.

Pride events and the pride parade are still going on in person, in Peterborough but we have a clash this year and can’t attend :sob::rainbow:

@Queerantine - I know how lonesome it can feel to do Pride on your own, knowing nobody. Hell, if arranging it weren’t against forum rules, I’d travel to wherever you are and do it with you next time. It would be a privilege to march at your side. :rainbow_flag:

Thank you! I really appreciate that. I would be honoured to march with you some day.

I’m hoping to move to Brighton next month (fingers crossed! I’ve booked an airb&b for the month so I can look around and visit agents/talk to the council). If it all works out, I’ll be closer to my London based friend and away from family, so maybe by Pride 2022 I’ll have someone to go with :grin:
