Pubic hair- please help

PPD, my 8 year old daughter takes after her mother and is very dark haired too, it's quite noticeable on her legs, she's not having any problems yet but with kids you know it's only a matter of time! Not that we thinking of it now but Me and the OH were wondering what was an acceptable age to start shaving, my OH can't remember when she first did, just wondered if anyone had experience also with this? X

FB & PPD. I agree with everything that you have both posted. However this is a young inexperienced virgin lady surely our thoughts and advice should be for her and not about a silly immature young man's misguided and misinformed quote. IAM only a man and maybe wrong just thought WE were a little off target from the advice asked for. I have nothing but admiration for all the help and honest advice you give. Sorry I may of used the word rant in the wrong context for you both as there is a thread about ranting. Finally nobody especially me is in anyway looking at the mods being involved.
This is a young lady and as we all know your first steps into sexuality can have a massive effect on confidence and sexual happiness.

I just remembered something that happened when I was 7/8. I have dark hair and I'm generally more hairy than most women but everyone in my family is. I had kids at school make fun of my arm hair and telling me to shave. 7/8 year old were telling me to shave! I know its not the same but you can see just how messed up that is. It wasn't done in a nice way either, they were laughing about it and basically saying I was disgusting too. I was already very insecure about it and that's all it took for me to use my granddad's razor and shave my arms and legs.

Thinking back on it now, it was the funniest thing I've ever done. I was bleeding everywhere, seeing as I couldn't use a razor (most 7 year olds can't) and my cousin, who had NO HAIR whatsoever, decided to join me. Anyway, my point is, I wish I hadn't listened to those kids. People kept telling me I have hairy arms up until about 5 years ago, but I would just tell them that I was quite aware, I do have eyes afterall. Don't let it get to you, people tend to grow up and mature and things like bodyhair doesn't tend to bother them anymore.

Yes man, in the same, I have very dark hair and started getting more at an early age. I would personally reccomend hair minimising moisturiser on her legs, once a day. This will reduce it, but gradually, and it won't grow back even thicker! There's also the option of hair removal cream, which is what my mum used on me when I first got underarm hair. I would probably wait until she's 12-13 before using a razor, and just try and use creams in the meantime.

Evolution has made us less hairy so maybe in another few thousand years we won't have any hair.

SO yes people to trim/shave/wax but it is by no means compulsory!

DO whatever you like and makes you feel comfortable.

and if you see that 'boyfriend' again, grab him by the pubes and give them a short sharp pull and make him squeal!

Like!

Hello I am 19 and still a virgin.

I have never shaved my pubic hair and it is totally natural. It is quite long and curley and I was always quite proud of it.

However last weekend I went to a health spa with my friends and some of their boyfriends. When I go to the beach on hholiday and things I always cover my pubic hair up with a sarong as quite a bit of it goes down the inner side of my legs. Anyway I went to the health spa and forgot the sarong so just went in the pool in my bikini. When I was on the side of the jacuzzi one of the boyfriends said that he could see it and that it was discusting and that I needed to take a shave. If im honest I never even knew that people shaved it ! Im not sure if he saw it because I was wearing a white bikini or whether it was the bits going down my leg

I have never had any kind of sexual contact with a man or a woman so please can you help me before II get into that situation.

Is shaving what most people do? Is natural a real turn off? Please be honest

Firstly, hello! Take a deep breath and give yourself a hug - people can be really harsh sometimes. I'm 20, and up until I was 16ish I was completely natural. I only started shaving around the edges to keep the hair within my underwear, through personal choice - I hadn't had anyone comment by that point and I was none the wiser to societies pressures. I recently experiemented with going completley bare, but decided it wasn't for me. I personally love having my hair! I'd suggest you have an experiment, read around to get a few ideas of what shape, length etc you might like. Remember, it grows back!

I had something similar with my legs, I was about 11, and although being blonde my hairs were very fine, they were long and I loved wearing skirts. I had some very nasty comments, but living with my dad after parents had divorced a few years ealier, it wasn't something we'd discussed yet so I had no idea about shaving my legs. I felt awful and was really distressed over it. I'm sure a lot of women here have felt something similar from comments not throught through.

As for getting hair in your mouth during oral, I've had that happen to me loads! Also, I lose hair from my head worse than most cats (I have very long hair) and it gets everywhere! If he can't deal with hairs getting places, mouth etc, should I shave my head?? Extreme maybe, but it puts a slightly humours spin on things.

Anyway, I hope you have found some useful info from the guys on the forums, and if you ever want to chat to someone your age, I understand not everything wants to be put on forums, I have an email on my profile you can use :) xx

Yes man, I too am now quite dark haired (never was when I was younger) and like PPD, I probably have more body hair than most women do. The hair on my forearms is quite noticabale but I haven't had anyone comment on it. I do sometimes get a bit paranoid about it, but then I think if someone doesn't like it, then that's their problem!

Regarding your daughter and shaving her legs, I first shaved mine when I was 11 even though I was more fair haired back then. It was my own choice though and I wasn't pressurised into it by anyone at school or my family, although things are a lot different nowadays. I wouldn't really suggest you do anything at the moment if nothing has been said, maybe when she's between 10-13 years old she might bring it up herself. But if she has already brought it up with you and it's something she wants to do, then I would support her but also ask her why she feels as though she needs / wants to.

MrsMcX mentioned about hair minimising moisturiser, this is a good place to start, but obviously only if your daughter talks to you about it as she might think that something is wrong with her if you or your OH bring it up.

Agree

Yes man I'd say wait till she's about 12 unless she brings it up. Sooner or later she will notice that most girls her age don't have as much hair as she does. I agree with MrsMcX about the hair minimising creams, I'd put off shaving for as long as possible.

I'm bi. NONE of my partners in 20 some years have shaved and I've only done it once, out of curiosity. Hated it, regreted it and couldn't wait till it grew back. Can honestly say that hair has NEVER been a problem with either gender in either direction.

When I read these threads I feel fortunate to have come of age back in the days when we were able to cope with something as normal as pubic hair. What's happened to us?

Dear PPM

What a horrid experience for you and what a thoughtless young man.

So here is the view of somone more than old enough to be your mother, and how I would advise my daughter. I personally feel the thing that caused the comment was probably the hair extending to the top of your thighs rather than the pubes showing through your bikini. You say you normally wear a sarong so you seem to be embarrased by it. I have been there and got the sarong! My advice would be to keep this bit shaved when you go swimming and when you are ready for your first sexual contact.

Both my daughter (a bit older than you) and I suffer from dark hair on our forearms, thighs and legs and upper lip. Her response is to bleach, shave or use hair removing cream as necessary. I shave and bleach.

As for the pubic area, as the other forum posts indicate there is a range of opinion. For someone in your position I certainly wouldn't go further than a neat trim.

Big hug x

I agree with what Capricorn has said. He was a horrible and immature man to even comment on it.
It's totally up to you about what you do with your pubic hair and everyone is different to what they like. Do you like the way it looks now? You could always try trimming, see if you like that better...be careful with a razor it can be quite a tricky area when you first start shaving.
Don't let immature boys like that affect you. You are beautiful inside and out and when you find how you are comfortable you will be fine xx

Just a quick thanks to all who took the time to give some great advice, wasn't gonna make an issue of it till she brings it up, MrsX thanx for recommending the moisturiser, OH feels definitely best option for when the time comes. XXX

I'm 100% behind Rose - it all seems a little silly. Bah if you go anywhere in continental Europe like France, Italy or Spain - or say Japan just by example - pubic hair is considered female and beautiful.

But again - each to their own xx

Hello OP, welcome to the forums! I am 20 so hopefully I can give you some advice here from someone your own age. First off, do not let this horrible boyfriend of your mate's put you down. For a start, he should not be looking at that much detail into your lady regions. He's in a relationship and shouldn't be commenting on other girl's lady parts.

Phew. Now with that out of the way I'm happy to tell you that when I was eighteen I had no idea that society expected you to trim your pubes. The thought was so bizarre to me. I went out and bought a lady's bikini shaver and shaved all mine off to see what the fuss was about. And I wish I didn't. For one thing, it itches like crazy. I didn't trim the hairs first (rookie mistake) so the longer ones got caught in my shaver. I got horrible stubble when I tried to neaten it up with my straight razor. At the end of the day, shaving or waxing your pubic area can be a pain in the butt so I prefer to just take a pair of dedicated scissors that I have in my little bathroom basket and trim my pubes for personal reasons. It makes me feel a little fresher when Aunt Flow comes to visit and I feel it helps the skin around there breathe. That is my own personal decision though. I do trim my bikini line too but sometimes it itches like mad. In the winter I'm less likely to keep it neat because it's nice to have more hair down there. It keeps us warm lol.

I'll echo what others have said, do what makes you happy :) If you want to go for a natural look, display your pubes proudly to your first boyfriend! And while we're on the topic, if your first sexual partner can't take a bit of au naturale pubic hair, then dump their ass. It is your personal choice and is no different to a woman demanding that her boyfriend shave his legs, chest, pubes, armpits etc because "it's more hygienice" *Rolls eyes* Hairy stereotypes have been around for ages. If a man has lots of hair, it's manly and masculine, but if a woman does.. Eeeek! Oh no, it's the end of the world!! Ignore that guy at the health spa, he sounds like a horrible person. Chin up, chick :)

I'm a male in my 30's and I keep my pubes trimmed, I have totally shaved in the past but my oh says it prickles when it's growing back. My oh keeps hers trimmed but not bald. It's all about feeling happy with what you've got, if you want to trim/shave it should be your decision to make, not the opinion of someone else.

Hope this helps

Welcome to the forums!

Wow! I can't believe someone would be so rude as to comment on something as personal as pubic hair!

It's entirely your choice how you style your short and curlies, in just the same way as it's your decision how you dress, style your (head) hair and what food you eat. It's not for anyone elses to pass judgment and tell you what you should / shouldn't do.

If you are interested in experimenting with styles, I wrote a blog a few months ago which you might find useful: The Secret (Lady) Garden: Discover Your Pubic Hairstyles

I also recommend you read some books and info from Caitlin Moran - she has some wonderful views on this (and other feminine topics), basically backing up the point that it is your decision and no man or woman has a right to tell you how to style yourself!

Other than that, in this and all areas of your life, do what makes you happy! And sod everyone else! ;)

Thanks Janny.

Dark hair isn't an illness, no matter where it's located. Please be kinder to yourselves.

This is why the fetish with child-like hairlessness in women (and now men) frustrates me. There's nothing wrong with having hair. Or women who aren't blonde. But the expectations keep getting dragged farther and farther away from what's natural. There is nothing wrong with our bodies as they are.

Except that absurdly large corporate entities don't sell us as much junk we don't need when we actually like ourselves and our diversity.

Point taken Rosehip; poor choice of wording there and I agree with your sentiments 100%, especially the child-like hairlessness.

It would be lovely if all differences, body-shapes etc were embraced and celebrated but sadly in today's body conscious society there is peer pressure to conform to the image pushed by the media. This particularly affects young, less confident girls.

I wanted to offer some practical advice on what I saw as the key issue here which was the pubic hair growing down on the thighs and my suspicion that the OP probably has dark hair in other places too.
