Totally agree Royal Mail here is the same no post for days then a dollop of post all on the same day. It used to be two deliveries a day first and then second class and first class WAS delivered the next day if posted before lunchtime no extra guaranteed next day delivery payment was needed. Royal Mail often deliver to the wrong house too…many times I have to go and collect it from down the road.
Talking of payment to send a birthday card now the stamp costs more than the card and second class now means about two weeks here if at all.
EVRI…DPD…Amazon like you say a phew but when you see “Royal Mail” it’s oh no I hope it arrives.
Anyhow as to what am I currently doing? I’m looking at my delivered item it is beautiful…nostalgic…and a reminder of happy times.
That’s why i think birthday and Christmas cards sent through the mail will die out within the next few years. The younger generation are happy to send and receive E-cards. It’s quite easy to create a little meme and send it to someone special to let them know they’re in your thoughts.
Often birthday cards end up costing the recipient money if they’re too heavy for the postage paid.

I will add that i know via local social media that the sorting offices are woefully understaffed and the posties under increased pressure so I don’t blame them, I blame the greedy management.
