When your tech insults you

Haha!! I wouldn’t mind a motivational watch to praise on laundry folding and other house chores

I occasionally have conversations with Siri on my phone and many times the lady has made me feel so stupid plus there was a phase when I’d ask how to spell things and she’d read it out mega fast it was near impossible to keep up with her :hear_no_evil:

Wow, I never thought about it that way. Guess it’s all about perspective sometimes. I’m getting “rewarded” to do daily chores.

You should ask Siri, “Hey Siri, what is zero divided by zero”. I promise her answer is hilarious. Though I’m curious if her answer differs in the UK vs the US. After you listen, and if you feel up to it, let us know what her response is (or summarize).

Vacuuming. :slightly_smiling_face: (the brand name ‘Hoover’ has become synonymous with all vacuum cleaners. “I’m just having quick go round with the hoover”)

Hoovering = Vacuuming. Got it. Thanks @Ian_Chimp

I find this hilarious!

Hmmmm I feel like I need one of these smart watches now.
It would be great if someone … anyone pays recognition for all my work around the house!

Are they basically the same? Because the price of them varies so much.

I both laughed at this and then felt bad as it can wear on you when you don’t feel appreciated for your efforts.

There are some differences in features among the watches in the smart watch community. Some aren’t so much ‘smart watches’ as they are advanced watches with various additional features like step counters, exercise monitors & trackers, food/water trackers, etc.

One big thing that typically separates a full featured smart watch vs simply an advanced smart watch is the ability to sync with your phone for texts and phone calls.

The more spendy ones can actually send and receive phone calls while being completely independent of your phone (phone is off, watch will still ring if phone is called)

So if you receive a call, you can answer either on your phone or watch. The watch will also have its own separate number as it has its own sim chip. But with your provider you can ‘sync’ your phone and watch. It breaks down like this after you sync:

Smart watch:
-Will ‘ring’ when either the watch number or cell/mobile number is called.
-Can answer calls made to both phone or watch

Phone:
-Will only answer calls made to the phone.

My watch isn’t a full featured smart watch. It links to my phone via Bluetooth. If I receive a call when both my phone & watch are powered on and connected to each other, then both my phone and watch will display the incoming call, but if I swipe to ‘answer’ the call on my watch, I still need to do the actual talking on my phone.

Really the only benefit is if I’m in a situation where pulling my phone out of my pocket to talk is inappropriate, I can still see who’s calling by looking at my watch.

If it’s an important call, I can excuse myself from the room to take it. If it’s not important, I can let it go to voice mail or swipe to decline the call. I can also choose to swipe to decline and send a preprogrammed text to the caller. “I’ll call you back” or “busy, can’t talk”. The same thing can be done with text messages.

Good news is you don’t need to spend lots to get a watch that will give you a “you’re doing great” message if it detects your ‘exercise’ lol

It’s funny because I was already looking for one earlier as my 12 year old has requested one for her birthday.
The one I have chosen for her is £50.

But I think I will actually get myself one too, however I would rather one that I could use to answer calls as this would actually be really useful for me.

Does anyone in the UK have any recommendations that are compatible with an android phone?

Your info is helpful, thank you :slightly_smiling_face: @anon8189768

Oh yeah. My last comment is for my specific US mobile carrier. I’m certainly not an expert in UK mobile service so if you are UK, I recommend talking with your specific carrier.

Good catch @Cupc8kes

Yep. I always say to the kids " can you run the hoover around".
You can actually watch a p!#s take video here.

Yes exactly! Rewards from doing chores is a great motivator in my books

Hahaha I asked Siri and they said ‘what would you get if you divided zero cookies between zero friends, what would you get’ and then they said something about an unhappy Cookie Monster :joy:

Ok, same answer we get in the US then. Was wondering if it would be different. Thanks for sharing.

One of the best and most hilarious AI answers to a question in my opinion

I once had the deepest sleep of my life and in the morning when I woke up my Fitbit congratulated me on my two hour bike ride. Must’ve been having a crazy active dream!

Wow. That’s pretty crazy. Though it seems like burning calories like that when you sleep would be a great “weight loss” program

Hahaha!!! I loved it and been trying to see if there’s any other funny remarks Siri can make on things

I’m admittedly more of an Android type myself. My daughter is the house Apple user. Not sure how to fix her but we try lol :stuck_out_tongue:

She is the only reason I know anything about Apple. And admittedly Siri is a more personable bit of AI

Ever tried that thing where Siri and Alexa have a conversation with each other? :joy: I’ve seen videos and it’s bizarrely creepy.

Alas I’ve never tried an android before.

For the record, I find Alexa to be the most unintelligent piece of AI in existence. We have Alexa devices and I can’t tell you how many issues we have.

We have it setup so we can verbally turn on the lights without using the switch.

The amount of times she doesn’t know what I’m saying is astounding. I’m like, “I’ve been telling you the same four commands for four years already and you still have issues figuring out what I’m saying?”

Alexa, yeah…

Hoover is a US company, I’m sure in the south (of US) I could say Hoover and be understood. In fact I think when I went into a store and asked to be shown vacuum cleaners I got a blank look (but that could have been my accent)
