ADHD medication effects on sex

Hey all :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve recently been diagnosed as having ADHD and currently going through titration on Elvanse to help manage it. (As a side note they’ve also referred me for an autism diagnosis as they strongly suspect that too).

I was wondering if anyone on here has taken Elvanse before and what impact, if any, it had on your sex life?

Sorry I can’t answer this one but will be keeping an eye on any responses since I’m looking into getting an assessment for ADHD in the near future. General reading that I have done on ADHD medication seems to show an improvement in sexual function and libido in most people due to an improved ability to focus on the sensations and stay in the moment. However, there was also mention of erectile disfunction in some people but I’m not sure how common this is. I would suggest you discuss this with the person who is managing your medication - psychiatrist or doctor? Don’t be embarrassed to ask, it’s really important to understand the possible sude effects and they should be able to discuss this with you.

Thanks for the insight, I had read similar too so I’m keeping an eye out for anything so I can discuss them if relevant.
With your diagnosis, are you on a list yet or requesting to go on one?
For mine I expressed my right to choose and went with ADHD360 who have been decent for me this far. Happy to give any advice or pointers on that part of the journey if you need/want any

Autism often comes hand in hand with adhd. I’ve not had any experiences with them meds so can’t comment but I’d suggest asking a doctor what the common side effects are if any and read up on them.

I’m not on a list yet, I’m still trying to find the confidence to ask my GP. I’m going to use Right to choose but i’m thinking of chosing a provider that offers face to face appointments because i find video calls very scary!

That makes sense and good work knowing what you need and making sure that’s covered. Have you researched companies near you who do that?
Maybe knowing who you want to ask to be referred to will bring a potential confidence increase

I think there’s one in Lincoln - Dr J and Colleagues. I’m happy to travel, I’ll just stay over for a night or two, it beats the dreaded zoom call :sweat_smile:
