Adult circumcision

SO, at around 45 I had to get circumcised due to phimosis and I thought I’d talk about the difference in sensation since I’m pretty well qualified to do so.

Firstly the positives …

1/ I don’t have as much smegma. I still get some because they leave a bit of internal foreskin.

2/ I won’t suffer phimosis again

3/ Theres statistics that suggest that I’m possibly less likely to contract HIV, though its tentative at best, and really not something I’d want to put faith in if I was not married.

There. That was easy.

The negatives.

1/ no foreskin. Its an erogenous zone. Who in their right mind wants one of those removed?

2/ loss of sensation - the glans skin becomes thick and the nerves significantly reduce in sensitivity. For the women, imagine having your labia and clitoral hood removed and you clit permanantly rubbed by your rough clothing. It’ll go dead simply to protect itself. Many WOMEN claim this is a good thing because you last longer. This is true, but you last longer because you can’t feel anything in comparrison. I personally don’t see that as a benefit and womens opinion on this matter really doesn’t count.

3/ more loss of sensation - the inner foreskin is THE most sensitive part of the penis. More sensitive than the glans and the rest of the penis put together. You’ve just had it removed. Which is a problem because its the only part of the penis with enough nerves specialising in light pressure to make a difference. Your glans are sensitive to temperature and deep pressure. Your inner forskin is where the gentle sensation of wet skin over wet skin is primarily felt. Thats the main contributor to everything feeling amazing and is a big contributor to an orgasm.

4/ In the first few months, excess pressure on the glans causes erections at the worst possible times. But don’t worry, you soon won’t be able to feel much there so it’ll stop.

5/ Sex of any type just doesn’t feel as good. It doesn’t. 3/4 of the most sensitive surface of my penis has gone. Thats just a fact. Would we tolerate that being done to women at birth ( Yes I’m aware of FGM but thats in general even more extreme and not routinely carried out be doctors at the request of mothers for absolutly no sensible reason )

6/ Before the procedure I used to be able to have what I described as a double orgasm. I’d have a regular orgasm and then by manipulating my foreskin against my frenulum, I could build up to a second, much more intense dry orgasm that would leave me almost screaming. I still have my working frenulum but that has since proved impossible.

7/ I’m sure you can guess my opinion of people who force a child to have one without consent.

8/ I’m sure most of the above could of been combined it 2 or 3 points but I didn’t.

SO, can I have and enjoy sex? Yes, of course. But is it just as good as it was before the circumcision? Absolutely not and it never will be. I will never enjoy the sensations of sex the same way ever again. In my case I didn’t have a choice. I could either not have sex because of intense pain, or I could have some sex that didn’t feel that good. But to force that on a child?

Anyway that was my experience and how its shaped my view. I’m sure other people have had different experiences and have different opinions. Thats to be expected and I’d be interested to hear them.

Hmm defo sounds like if you had the choice you’d not go with having it done :grimacing:

But what if healthcare was an industry, and profit the aim? Surely that’d make it OK to push unnecessary mutilating medical procedure on young children right?

Right?

Right……?

Im with the original poster all the way.

Any medical procedure should only be undertaken purely for medical needs.

Are you circumcised low or high and tight?

My fella is circumcised high and tight and he has no issues, I’ve heard that a low cut can cause loss of sensitivity.

That’s the main benefit that I have noticed since my operation six months ago at the age of 55.

For me, the phimosis had worsened progressively over many years to the highest level without actually realising it. Looking back now, I could properly retract (flaccid) from an earlier age, but never could do so erect, always had to pull it back beforehand. Masturbation was always very good though (non-retracted) & always nicer than intercourse.

So there was never the gliding action that most people report, I just had sex with it jammed solid behind the glans, never experiencing the pleasures most people do and always ejaculating within 30 seconds of PIV. Had to wait until the erection went away to pull the skin back to normal a few minutes later.

I know this is wrong now, but naively thought it was just the ageing process. Anyway in summer 2022 I got bitten on the penis by an insect which eventually led to a circumcision in April 2025, the surgery was really easy and great recovery btw.

However back to your original point, I am glad to be free of the horrible disease and would never want to go back. I can have sex without any pain now, however it is often unsatisfying. My duration has increased now up to two minutes average now, but my orgasm is about 10% of my (pre-injury) almost para-phimotic status.

Having the standard “NHS special” which removes all the diseased skin, ie my cut line is about 1.5mm from the head, the appearance is actually quite good and better than I imagined. Also now I don’t have the constricting band behind the head, the girth is probably 50% larger than before.

So in conclusion : it is what it is. No option but to get it done. Probably should have had it aged 21 or so and my brain would had time to retrain, I fear it is too late now.

None of my partners have been circumised and the only one that had a smegma issue, was the one I dated as a teen, I’m guessing because he didn’t clean very well. Everyone else has always been very clean and fresh smelling. I really don’t understand how people can justify circumcising an infant unless absolutely medically necessary and was surprised to hear it’s the norm in the USA, from other parents I chatted to while pregnant. I really think it should be the child’s choice, when they reach adulthood. I’m sorry you’ve had to go through that. I didn’t know you could get Phimosis as an adult. Just had to google it to find out more.

I had legit medical reasons, and I was a 40yr old adult who was capable of making his mind up. It would of been nice if someone had told me the truth about what to expect afterward but

a/ thats the NHS for you and

b/ I’d of still had to have it done.

Got to admit I had to look that up. It would appear I’m low and loose, which in theory should be better as I’m left with more inner foreskin and so more nerve endings than high and tight which leaves you with less adn fewer.

Glad it worked for you. I likewise had no choice as the alternative was intense pain and pretty much no sex.

I’m just really bloody furious at the people who force this on their babies and deprive them of so much. We very rightly consider FGM an abhorent abuse and condemn it but unanaesthetised circumcision of a baby who can’t give consent is considered fine.

And the excuses/reasons you hear are just absurd and obscene. Forcing it on a child should be a criminal offence.

Yeah I think there may be a genetic element to it too. I found out later that my dad had had exactly the same issue at around the same age, and needed the same operation. Caused by BXO ( called lichen sclerosus in women ), which as far as I remember is considereed an auto-immune disease.

Pretty bad you wasn’t given the full load down on the after care details and having it done later in life I sense is more of an adjustment than if you was a baby getting chopped… hopefully your getting comfortable with it all now

The standard medical operation we have in the UK would normally leave a result of “Low and loose”. They look very different to the “High and tight” that would often occur with a cosmetic procedure.

NB : these terms are not seemingly recognised by the medical profession, but often used in online discussions and by private clinics offering paid for ‘solutions’.

As I said before, my (very) low and (medium) loose outcome was dictated by needing to remove all inner & outer foreskin due to the severity of the disease. This has made little difference now, as before it was just bunched up & immobile anyway.

PS : I agree that ritual circumcision of babies or children should be illegal.

Yeah wasn’t great. Downright alarming to see my pecker all bloody, bruised and bandaged up. But it healed quickly and there was absolutely no pain. I had an op to remove a stricture recently and that was far worse.

I still tend to compare things to what they used to be but over time you get used to anything so all’s good now, thanks.

That’s good at least you wasn’t in pain with it. I know someone who had a right bad one done and it’s ruined their sex life :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Thats terrible. The frustration and anxiety that could cause would be awful. Poor bugger.

Think it was something to do with their healing that they lost all sensitivity so struggle to get and keep an erection plus the procedure left them with their willy being an inch smaller when it can get erected so they barely are able to enjoy intercourse anymore :scream:

Needless to say he’d been in so much depression over it all.

Dear god. I wasn’t warned about issues as potentially devastating as that. Not sure what I’d of done if I was. You’re told that all operations are inherently risky but its kept somewhat abstract. No details at all and obviously the surgeon insists the op is routine, simple, they’ve decades of experience etc. etc. so in your general panic you just go with it and put your trust in them and the odds.

I’ll have to ask them again what type of circumcision they had done as think they said it was for tight foreskin but had scaring down the shaft of their penis which has caused them to lose length in erection along with something to do with the nerves which has taken away all sensation…

Maybe it was they had problems with the op.

Scarring down length ways suggests either something really went wrong or it was more than just a circumcision. Yeah, scar tissue can shrink if the wound isn’t compressed properly.

Checked in on them for more details which they confirmed it was a medical circumcision for tight foreskin with increased risk of later developing penile cancer so he had no choice for it being done but corrected me on the part that he don’t have any scarring down the shaft, just the usual one you get from the procedure…

He also said that because he’s always had the joy of foreskin, now it’s gone it’s killed his sex life cause he can’t get any of the good senses anymore or stay hard and has noticed he’s gotten smaller than what he was before the op :face_with_spiral_eyes:
