Hi @LJ Personally I find beads uncomfortable because there’s not enough of a gap between the beads for me so they just feel rough and uncomfortable but that might just be me! I’d recommend a small silicone plug as a first anal toy. The metal ones might look small but, because they are so rigid and have extra weight to them, they feel a lot bigger than they really are! I’ll have a browse and see if I can make some suggestions in a bit.
Choosing between beads and a plug is more about what you want to do with it, rather than what is best for a beginner. If you want something you can pop in and leave for a while, then you want a plug. If you want something to more actively use, then beads are better for moving in and out.
Personally I don’t like beads (as the non-user) and the reason why is because they have pulled out ‘unwanted things’ in the vast majority of the times I’ve seen them being used… obviously getting caught in the beads. Not every time, but definitely >50%.
I know there’s a risk whenever you do anything anal, and we’re all grown ups here and all, but it was just a bit too much volume and high in frequency that it just put me off.
Each to their own though, and worth experimenting if you’ve never done it, I agree.
If you’ve not started with this already then can I suggest that you first start with a finger?… then, as suggested above, progress depending on what you want to do with it - ie long term wear, during sex only etc
I’d defo say the beads would be better to go with out of the metal plug as the base on that isn’t ideal incase it vanishes up the bum, but I personally would recommend buying an anal starter kit like this…
Or if your on a small budget to then go with something like these…
My first anal toy was similar to that basics anal beads and a set of plugs. Pretty quickly also added a Doc Johnson or Sportsheets beginner’s strap-on/pegging kit with a pretty small dildo (only 3.5" girth, 5" length). Plugs can be helpful for adjusting to the feel and working toward a dildo or beads that you might want to work in and out.
The other thing you might look at is a small p-spot vibrator to see if that’s something you like (internal vibe play is its own specific enjoyment separate and distinct from thrusting or stretching play, I think).
Best recommendation is to probably start with something that you think might be too small. I’ve never regretted ordering something for anal play thinking, “what if it’s too small?” it’s still fine. I have been disappointed with “I think it’s small enough” and can’t get anywhere near enjoying it. Just my advice for starting out.
As others have said, it’s worth going with small silicone toys when you first start. They remain useful as they are easy to pop in and are a good warm up before using a bigger and/or harder toy.
I think 2.5 inch is pretty much the smallest metal butt plug, FWIW.
I have this one, its 3" circumference and is just a wee bit thicker than my finger. It doesn’t hurt going in. Its only £4.50 at the moment too.
The metal one you’ve linked above says its 2.5" in circumference in the information but states in the specifications that it is 3.5" circumference and 2.5" of insertable length. Just so you’re aware.
The Smallest plug/beads to me don’t always go with what’s best for beginners in my experience. I think the material is the most important as I find pvc the hardest to insert and clean followed by silicone. Glass and metal are both easier to insert with lube. The metal ones just feel heavier.
I don’t think you can go wrong with glass. It’s compatible with any lube and cleaning afterwards is so easy.
I also recommend choosing one with a good base/handle aa that will also determine how easy one is to insert.
I very highly recommend this plug. This is my go to plug during intercourse with my other half.
I have many kinds (material and types). the best one to me is the Doc Johnson one i got from here. The material it’s made from, compared to all my others makes a big difference. Im trying to find more like this (same kind of material). Its silicone but very smooth compared to other silicone toys i have.
I also started with that kit and had so much fun with it but I didn’t realise actually how it’s not as beginner friendly it is compared to other anal toys.
I personally think a tee plug is the best starter and later a warm up toy . The gradual taper makes insertion much easier , especially when you are learning to relax . I still have my first tee plug and use it for warm ups before using my larger toys . Personally I have no use for the beads , so many much better toys .
