At least in the US, I wonder how many of these “politicians” have stakes in the VPN companies and data companies. The amount of money companies make off selling your data is scary. I will most likely be buying a VPN and getting a subscription to an ethical porn site.
In theory it is good to have measures in place but you’ve now essentially introduced a new set of problems. Any ID now stored is now a target from malicious actors and you’re now pushing people to the dark web with TOR and VPN downloads and where it’s even more of the wild west.
Had to do this a couple of days back to get into my Fetlife account
I think it is a one off thing for account access
I guess I’ll need to sign up to whatever porn channels I’m looking at for similar access
I had a Hampster account many years ago as that was where I started my exhibitionist journey on cam
Definitely a good way to go
Can’t abide the idea that younger people are seeing any of the porn stuff
@Tenshadesandme yes I think it was my Discord account I had to do that on to see NSFW pics guys posted on the wank group I’m in
Took me two mins to register on a site today and at no point did I need anything to verify my age, just a bit of facial recognition which could probably be done using a photo!
It’s not just register an account, the account registration involves an independent 3rd party age verification.
Frankly, sounds good to me. Knowing my 10 and 12yo can’t access porn they’re not yet looking for is good.
I absolutely disagree.
Very young people not looking for that type of content will not be able to access it.
Of course, older teens looking for it will find ways. But no 10yo girl should stumble on porn when innocently looking for the perfect pair of knickers, of for a recipe of pie thay involves cream.
Nor should my 12yo boy.
Online porn is great for us adults, we can manage it. Oir kids can’t yet. It’s a problem, and not that hard to see.
I think it’s a load of stupidity and whoever implemented this hasn’t even thought it thorough at all on multiple fronts…
If kids go looking for porn they’ll find it regardless, and in ways it’s down to parents to ensure what their kids are up to and can put parental blocks on their home WiFi hubs to certain sites.
Honestly its inevitable teens will come into contact with porn eventually as it’s part of growing up in modern life and again I think it’s down to parents to have the talk with their kids about it and build the communication over it and schools too…
By doing this I feel it’s another nail in the coffin to taking our freedoms away by sticking in on controlling us and I bet you anything sexual crimes and abuse will rise in areas as people who now can’t access porn to get a release (as we all know it can be addictive and yet therapy for some) will become like caged tigers ready to lash out and get it somewhere else…
Which leads me to also saying free porn will just go to the dark web and that is where kids and people will be drawn into along with all the other horrors found within it!
I could ramble on for hours about this but feels pointless. Instead I shall drop this interesting read from the Xvideos blog page,
Maybe next the government will decide to ban sex toys as being too risky for people to see in stores and online so all future toys will need to come with an age verification and household permit to let all the higher powers know you have them in your house
It’s absolutely stupid and will do no good. Even my 9 year old knows what a VPN is!
Am I going to whack my real life personal details into a porn site… let me think about that for a whole 0.0000001 seconds.. Fk No of course Fking not!
Nord VPN is excellent, as is Windscribe. Coincidentally some have offers on at the moment for unlimited data tariffs… I wonder why!
I like windscribe personally, wife has used it for a few years for other (work based security) purposes so now when I look at pornhub or bellesa I am an anonymous visitor from Amsterdam or France or whatever VPN I log onto.
Absolute joke of a nanny state we live in.
A 9 or 10 year old should be supervised online. I think that’s the problem.
How are we all feeling about having to do the age verification on sites now? Do you think it will spread to websites like LH and other stores?
Feel like its an invasion of our privacy having to do it for all the adult or sites with adult content on it and also feel like its a matter of time before 1 of the verification sites gets hacked/leaked/sold and everyones business will be out in the open
I get its to stop children from seeing it but to be honest if they want to see it they will cause there is easy ways to get around it.
I think it’s a waste of time. If kids want to watch porn, they will just like smoking and drinking. It’s only for porn sites so can still see explicit images without verifying and also sites like stripchat. I think the are you over 18 button or even a date of birth check was sufficient so you can’t accidentally access it, if they choose to lie then they have made that decision.
I definitely won’t be putting my email address or any other details on these sites. Can you imagine all of the hacking!
Bank accounts Etc won’t be safe!
I’m certain this will happen with this verification process.
I used a third party verification service. Although i do think that today’s kids being brought up on computers would easily find ways to access free porn if they wanted to, they’re far more skilled than an old git like me.
Use you enail address as verification
One of the many problems with this particularly poor piece of legislation is that it doesn’t define what 'harmful content " is. So at any point some body in government could decide that pictures of dildos and bondage rope are harmful and require sites like LHs store to require an id check just to view them. Of course the problem with that is you can visit B&Q’s online shop and buy rope so should that site require id checks too?
My personal opinion is this law will get reviewed, revised, repealed as soon as a senior civil servant or politicians id shows up on a leaked list of verified users!
We all know that’s the problem.
With all the best will in the world, kids are very good circumventing parental supervision.
That’s what kids do for a living.
This already happens to a degree. B&Q sell sharp blades and bladed tools, and one should be above 18 to buy them.
It’s already legislation.
I dont really understand all the fuss here.
Yes, there are ways around it, and a determined kid will find it.
However, it surely will prevent a lot of accidental viewings of things kids should not be viewing.
We’ve all done innocent online searches returning much less innocent results.
If lovehoney needed an age proof to view its content, i would have no issues with it.
Like most things, the Idea is good but the application is very shortsighted and lame, and will encourage kids to delve deeper where the really bad stuff lives, kids are generally much more savvy than the fossils that are coming up with this stuff.
