@Analizer… what you say in some respects may be correct , regarding certain parents being lazy.
Having said that , some kids are far more technically savy than their parents, so finding ways around restrictions applied by parents may not present an obstacle for them.
There are age restrictions in many things in life, so I dont see this as being any different.
I have confirmed my age , without divulging any specifically personal details.
I dont think the legislation will be massively successful for reasons mentioned previously, but there has been constant pressure applied to governments to do something.
Some online sexual content is horrendous for many reasons including violence, be that implied or actual.
Gratuitous violence is morally WRONG , even if it is someone’s kink…. Sometimes something that is wrong has to be called out as wrong…. And im not talking about a bit of consensual spanking or some mild forms of BDSM.
I think we have all maybe stumbled upon disturbing online content…. Of which a child shouldn’t be able to access.
Exactly not just that, you cant control what’s outside of your own restrictions, parents who aren’t bothered and gives phones to their kids, I remember my daughter coming home from school saying the boys were watching porn on their phones at break time/lunch time. This is at a young age.
If you remove my ability to do something online, you have removed my choice, correct? Again, why do I have to give something up because someone else does not like it?
Yes, and I am not ignorant enough to believe anyome else would protect my children like I do. If any parent believes the public regards their childrens safety as much as they the parent do, I feel sorry for them
So you say you are ok with the restrictions, and then go on to say you did not think they will work. In that case, why be okay with the restrictions?
Pick a genre, in this case we will use violence, and currently everyone agrees it should be apparently banned. What happens when in a short time everyone agrees that your preferred genre should be banned?
As I said, they had to go some way to have restrictions.
They cant legislate for every eventuality, where a switched on tech minded kid can navigate around restrictions .
@teacake mentioned young kids accessing porn on a phone at school. What kind of potential attitude towards sex could that install in an impressionable young mind…hardly a healthy one.!!
None of my own preferences are generally regarded as being dangerous or morally offensive in the way violence is .
Sex should be portrayed as an enjoyable activity between consensual adults and like many other subjects explained in stages so that youths can understand and absorbe safely…. As adults they can adopt their own preferences and hopefully ones that do not or imply harm to others.
Let us follow this logic through. A child showed another child porn (or anything we do not want them to see) on a cell phone (or anything that can be used for viewing media). Maybe “for the good of all”, and “for the children” and “for everyone’s safety” we should outright ban porn and cell phones. Yes? No? Why or why not?
I am not searching for a thing. I am making a point that it is a slippery slope and will only get worse. It only takes a very quick look at history to see that I am right.
I do believe you have a better idea with different types of phones, however someone will still say it is not enough
For example EE and others like Smarty won’t allow access to 18 plus sites unless you pay for the sim or phone by credit card or request access and show you are of age.
@Analizer… Some online content is horrendous. It is not right that children can access it.
Yes parents should be vigilant, but websites that focus on adult material , surely wouldn’t want children viewing their websites… many may have welcomed the recent legislation?
Yes all 18 websites including dating apps are blocked. Obviously doesn’t stop them from using WiFi but it’s better than nothing. It’s been active for a good few years it came in when all of this talk was going on how to make things safer.
Not disagreeing with you that children should access porn. I am simply stating impeding others viewing of porn in, let us be honest, a futile attempt to stop childrenis not ok.
I am sure you are correct, that many did approve of the legislation. That does not make it ok.
As I have said before, this is not the end of this kind of action. This is just the beginning. Free speech and individual rights are under attack from all political parties in most first world countries right now. This is just another example.
You or others may be comfortable offering up your personal data for the false promise of protection, no matter how far it goes. So many others are not. I wager within 5 years forums like this very one will require similar checks, and they will be nearly empty of traffic, if they even exist at all
@Analizer…. I’m a strong believer of free speech. I just dont see the correlation between attempts to restrict children from porn sites and the suppression of free speech.
How have you accessed porn sites? What personal info have you provided that may compromise your privacy?
I really think some people have forgotten why there is a restriction, Young people thinking you have to give a BJ young people thinking anal sex is something you have to do. What if someone’s daughter was forced to have sex because the boy thought being forceful was part of it, and then going to court and saying he thought it was ok because of porn.
When a survey was done most of the girls and boys didn’t know they could say no and thought all the things they see is part of sex. Children don’t know no matter how you educate children, once they are out of the house and with friends their thoughts are not what mum dad told me, I want to be cool and be likeable.
You have mum dad telling you one thing and porn telling you another thing. Remember mum dad doesn’t have sex they aren’t cool.
I don’t know how to upvote you more @teacake but you are so on the nail there. The easy access to porn for teenagers is causing an awful lot of body dysmorphia, especially in today’s shorter edited down clip format.
Males think that their average 5” penis is inadequate and will never please a partner unless they can jackhammer away for an hour. I follow some male groups on Reddit and this typically makes up 50% of the questions. I am sure a similar parralel must be felt by females too.
Often clips have a female being coerced by an insatiable wild animal that is bordering on you know what. As kinky adults here on this forum, we know about cnc & role-play within our lives, but obviously this isn’t made clear to online porn viewers. Very rare you see a female in control or pushing back.
I know it’s an industry worth billions and nothing will ever stop it.
I didn’t really want to contribute this topic as it has got a bit toxic to be honest, but even as a non-parent I would gladly miss out on online content if it meant securing the innocence of younger curious minds until they were mature enough to process it.
