Anybody know a good valentines limerick or romantic poem?

Morning folks. Does anybody know a good valentines poem be it a funny limerick or romantic poem to use in a valentines card?Or a quote from history about love and life and happines. I usually make my girl a card and either write my own or put a romantic poem in it as it's more personal and she really does appreciate the effort that goes into them and I love making them for her. I also buy her one that I fill with loads of childish valentines poems and limericks and sayings, quotes etc. . . for a giggle ;-)

So has anybody got any that we may not have heard, thankyou!

Here's a fave of mine by Percy Shelley. *Loves Philisophy*

The fountains mingle with the river
And the rivers with the Ocean,
The winds of Heaven mix for ever
With a sweet emotion;
Nothing in the world is single;
All things by a law divine
In one spirit meet and mingle.
Why not I with thine? ---

See the mountains kiss high Heaven
And the waves clasp one another;
No sister-flower would be forgiven
If it disdained it's brother.
And the sunlight clasps the earth
And the moonbeams kiss the sea;
What is all this sweet work worth
If thou kiss not me?

Good man! I post my OH letters and she loves getting a hand written letter as nobody does that nowadays really do they? but. . . .you can imagine the content of some of them (utter filth! lol) she would die of embarrasment if they were posted to the wrong address!

That deserves a. . . . . .Oof!

That would make interesting reading for the unsuspecting reciepant lol

Probably not what you are looking for but thought I would share. Unfortunatly it wasn't written by me.

Beautiful (insert name) I need some more,

I want you here and down on my floor.

Rub me,suck me, fuck me till I bleed,

Do what you want, you are what I need!

Slap me, swear at me, do as you crave,

Just bend me over and make me your slave.

Squat on my face and look into my eyes

And tell me you have a tasty surprise!

Fill up my mouth with your delicious cum,

Don't stop for nothing, until you are numb.

I want you all, from your mouth to your butt,

Give me your body, just make me your slut!

You are what I desire, and I want YOU!

Make me your servant, you know what I'll do!

No limits or boundaries, nothing to break,

I'll give you my all and you can just take!

Romantic, fast, hard or sleazy,

Just give me a chance, for you I'm easy

You know what I like and what I will do,

But most of all I want it with you!

I've told you everything, I have nothing left,

Make my last words, your name on my breath!

I know I ask a lot, but my heart is so true,

All I want is to be with you!

How about this little gem by the inimitable Roger McGough?

ten milk bottles standing in the hall

ten milk bottles up against the wall

next door neighbour thinks we're dead

hasn't heard a sound he said

doesn't know we've been in bed

the ten whole days since we were wed

noone knows and noone sees

we lovers doing as we please

but people stop and point at these

ten milk bottles a-turning into cheese

ten milk bottles standing day and night

ten different thicknesses and

different shades of white

persistent carolsingers without a note to utter

silent carolsingers a-turning into butter

now she's run out of passion

and there's not much left in me

so maybe we'll get up

and make a cup of tea

then people can stop wondering

what they're waiting for

those ten milk bottles a-queueing at our door

those ten milk bottles a-queueing at our door

annoyingly, you can't separate the stanzas on here but the breaks come after "wed", "cheese", and "butter"

Or this one? Celia Celia, by Adrian Mitchell:

When I am sad and weary

And I think all hope is gone

When I walk along High Holborn

I think of you with nothing on.

Wendy Cope's "Giving Up Smoking" is a particular favourite of mine:

There's not a Shakespeare Sonnet

Or a Beethoven quartet

That's easier to like than you

Or harder to forget.

You think that sounds extravagant?

I haven't finished yet -

I like you more than I would like

to have a cigarette.

Wendy Cope again, this one is called "Valentine"

My heart has made its mind up
And I'm afraid it's you
Whatever you've got lined up,
My heart has made its mind up
And if you can't be signed up
This year, next year will do.
My heart has made its mind up
And I'm afraid it's you.

This one is my favourite ever and what I will have at my wedding should I ever find someone who lives up to it! It's called The Confirmation, by Edwin Muir:

Yes, yours, my love, is the right human face,
I in my mind had waited for this long,
Seeing the false and searching for the true,
Then found you as a traveller finds a place
Of welcome suddenly amid the wrong
Valleys and rocks and twisting roads. But you,
What shall I call you? A fountain in a waste,
A well of water in a country dry,
Or anything that’s honest and good, an eye
That makes the whole world bright. Your open heart,
Simple with giving, gives the primal deed,
The first good world, the blossom, the blowing seed, T
he hearth, the steadfast land, the wandering sea.
Not beautiful or rare in every part.
But like yourself, as they were meant to be.

I don't know whether these are of any use or interest SG, but I'm having a very happy time remembering them all so thanks for this gorgeous thread!

Hiya SS! Of course I'm interested girl. The Muir poem is lovely indeed. Here's one I like a lot, nice sentiment. Come Live With Me and Be My Love by Christopher Marlow. . . .(well known!)

Come live with me and be my love,
And we will all the pleasures prove
That valleys, groves, hills, and fields,
Woods or steepy mountain yields.

And we will sit upon the rocks,
Seeing the shepherds feed their flocks,
By shallow rivers to whose falls
Melodious birds sing madrigals.

And I will make thee beds of roses
And a thousand fragrant posies,
A cap of flowers, and a kirtle
Embroidered all with leaves of myrtle;

A gown made of the finest wool
Which from our pretty lambs we pull;
Fair lined slippers for the cold,
With buckles of th purest gold;

A belt of straw and ivy buds,
With coral clasps and amber studs:
And if these pleasures may thee move,
Come live with me and be my love.

The shepherds' swains shall dance and sing
For thy delight each May morning:
If these delights thy mind may move,
Then live with me and be my love.

I'll be honest, I'm not a big fan of poetry. I have a few poems I like (The Listener and The Raven being my 2 favourites) but I tend to not like the flow. I like to hear them read by the poet though, I love Tim Minchin's poetry read allowed by himself.

As for love poems

The ones I like best are the ones WandA has written for me :) he is very good and he has the same issues as me with flow so the always sound pretty good :). He doesn't like to share his poetry though so I can't tell you them.

My thing is love songs :) music is my obsession

My favourite love song being mine and WandA's song - When I Need You sung by Luther Vandross (here's a snippet):

When I need you
I just close my eyes and I'm with you
And all that I so want to give you
Is only a heartbeat away
When I need love
I hold out my hand and I touch love
I never knew there was so much love
Keeping me warm night and day

Aloud - aloud! How can I get that wrong grrr, my spelling has been atrocious lately!

I love that song too AdnaW! Leo Sayer sings it well.

:) It makes me happy! WandA listens to a lot of MOBO music and sent me this right at the beginning of our long distance relationship - it will be played at our wedding :). I'll have a look for the Leo Sayer version, not sure if I've heard it :)

Here you go girl.

No crying now ;-)

Another favourite is Minni Riperton's Loving You...

Loving you is easy cause you're beautiful
Making love with you is all i wanna do
Loving you is more than just a dream come true
And everything that i do is out of loving you

No one else can make me feel
The colors that you bring
Stay with me while we grow old

And we will live each day in springtime
Cause loving you has made my life so beautiful
And every day my life is filled with loving you

Loving you i see your soul come shining through
And every time that we oooooh
I'm more in love with you

I know you didn't ask for songs hope you don't mind :P.

Ax

I do not mind at all A! It's a celebratiom of love isn't it?

All good to me ;-)
