I bought my first toys just over two years ago (Nov 2016) and they have both stopped working this week! I have a bullet and a rabbit - the bullet has died completely but the rabbit's only half-dead (the bunny still works but the shaft doesn't rotate anymore). And yes, I tried changing the batteries!
Just wondered if this is a normal kind of lifespan to expect? Feels wasteful to be throwing them away. I'm assuming more expensive ones survive longer? Would love to hear from more experienced shoppers how often you expect to have to replace yours. Thanks!
That's unlucky that they both went faulty in the same week.
Did you use them regulary or did you not use them for months at a time? I know that's a common issue with rechargable toys but I'm not sure with battery opperated ones unless the batteries were left in them or something.
I'm not sure about the lifespan in general as my oldest toys are only about a year old and still seem to be ok.
Hi Bagpuss I purchased vibrator some time back and it just stopped working contacted customer services who was more than helpfull they are sending me a new one free of charge can't wait great service
I have heard that taking batteries out of electrical items when not in use can give the item a longer life span. Some rechargeable toys a lifespan based around how many charges you give it. Such as the Tango, "The high-quality recharging system lasts for over 500 charge cycles, providing many years of reliable pleasure."
We've not had great luck with some and others have been outstanding. For example, we had 2 Dr Kaplan something or others, first one died after the first use, the second reacted to something in our toy box (god knows what) and kinda melted so had a sharp point on the shaft. We've had one toy (a pink and white egg sort of vibrator) replaced foc by LH which was amazing as my wife contacted and said it was broken and no questions asked about 6 months after we bought it. We tidied out toy box on Tuesday and realized the first lady fingers and cheaper items we bought back in 2015 ish time are still going strong. A Jessica Rabbit works, albeit maybe not as vigorously as when new. And a Tracy Cox rechargeable vibe....with a dog chewed charger cable. The wife was not happy about that 😅 Fortunately replacement cables are cheap on eBay if anyone ever experiences the same tragic loss.

I'm pretty sure taking out the batteries doesn't increase the lifespan of an individual toy - but it will remove the risk of the batteries leaking into the toy and killing it (so statistically speaking, overall lifespan of sex toys will be increased). That said, rechargeable batteries don't leak anyway, so I leave mine in the Bedtime 10 Function controller (which takes rechargeables, unlike other toys where they don't fit).
Regarding the charge cycles of rechargeable toys: Depending on the quality of the battery, NOT using it can kill it within months. My mobile emergency phone died on me like this - twice! My e-bikes manual says to charge it once a month if its not used, so I'd consider a monthly charge the minimum for sex toys as well. (I have a vibrator which gets less than that and so far it survives. But I won't be in tears if it dies on me, either...)
I burnt the motor out on my mains powered Lovehoney wand in a few months....... definitely overuse ! 😂😂 Lovehoney replaced it and this one is lasting for ages...... although I do use my doxy most of the time xx
