Must be big enough to know it's there but not so big as to restrict normal walking etc
It’s hard to give recommendations based on “big enough to know it’s there” as that will vary from person to person and change based on how much experience you have. Do you have any plugs at the moment that fit that description?

The nJoy steel plugs are great for longer-term wear. Very comfortable but the weight of them definitely lets you know they are there. They are expensive, though.
There are several different sizes - this is the small:
Oh, I meant to add: something with a slender 'neck' like the njoy or the one AsYouWish linked to might make you feel more comfortable about it staying in on the move, as the plug part makes you feel 'full' but the anal sphincter isn't being stretched too much by the thinner neck part.
You might also want to consider the issue of lube - with long term wear the lube can dry out and the plug might become uncomfortable if you don't reapply. Something to experiment with and see what works for you :)
You can definitely wear something larger on the move! The shape is the most important thing to consider I think.
If you don’t mind rigid materials then I’d agree with above, nJoy would be the way to go. Not the cheapest plugs around but they will last a lifetime so it’s worth the investment. If you’d prefer to use silicone, the Fun Factory Booty Plugs may be worth a look. I absolutely love mine and use the medium size all the time.

Is great for staying in and does give you a very “full” feeling so defiantly worth a look! Also the base is curved which seems to work better for us than the standard flat bases.
I'm with As You Wish on this, the b-Vibe Snug Plug Weighted Silicone Butt Plug 3 is ideal for long term wear on the go.
I've used this one for hours, and you definitely know it's there. Due to its unique shape, it never feels like it's going to pop out at any time, also with it thin flexible neck it's really comfortable to wear sitting down bending over or just walking as it never feels like it's being pressurised in further Great for driving or riding on public transport.

I've only found one that is quite large and stays in place properly for extended periods, but sadly, it is now discontinued on Lovehoney :-(
