Definitely something silicone, glass or steel. While unsafe plastics may be acceptable for the short while they're in for sexy time you probably really don't want to walk around with them in.
Personally I want http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=25809 for the same purpose, I find longer plugs get uncomfortable fast. You want the neck and bulb to be different enough in width for it not to slip out too easily and a well rounded base to not dig into your cheecks.
This one would probably work really well too http://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=28439 I've tried a similarly shaped one that was a lot more comfortable than the regular shape and the base is probably even more comfortable for long use.

For long term wear you want something flexible, so go silicone, and something with a slim low profile base, so it nestles comfortably and discreetly between the buttocks, and you can sit on it.
Avoid anything with a circular base as that can start to poke into the buttocks after an extended period, and it will irritate you.
