I would really like to get a vibrator with a view of using with my OH one day but I'd like to try a few out on my own first so i can get a feel of what i like. Never used one before but i have never reached orgasm through just vaginal penetration although i do enjoy it. Any suggestions?

I'd also add that most "beginners" have had some form of clitoral stimulation before, whether they use objects like the showerhead, their hands, or just by grinding on pillows etc. So weak vibrations might actually not be any good. I'd personally recommend getting something with multiple settings or uses (suitable for both external and internal). Some great recommendations as always. From what you said have you thought about a rabbit vibrator as this will give you the best of both, vaginal penetration and the ears will give clitoral stimulation.
Also another thing to consider is size. For a pleasurable experience it's important to choose a vibrator with a size that you are going to be comfortable with so make sure you read the "how it measures up" section for any vibrator that you like the look of. The vibrator might look great with fantastic reviews but not everyone can manage for example something with a 6" circumference.
And finally don't forget the lube.
