Butt plug size

Hi Lovehoney, I want to buy my wife a butt plug. I’m thinking a metal jewelled one, but not sure what size. We have done anal play, but not regularly, say once a year. When we do have anal sex, my wife can take all of my dick in her arse. My dick is about average size, 6” long and 5” circumference. What size butt plug should I be getting? Do I get the small or progress straight to medium?

I would say a medium should be fine. Going too small with round based butt plugs isn’t a good idea. If she had never had any anal before, then small might be ok but if she can handle a penis, go for the medium

Personally, if there’s no issues with accomodating a dick, I’d be recommended a medium or large jewelled plug.

The medium would be a comfortable warm up, whilst the large is much closer to dick sizes in girth.

In fingers, the girth of jewel plugs tends to be 2, 3 or 4 fingers for a small, medium or large, respectively.

I hope the description helps.

Not to hijack the post…but we r considering similar. There looks to be several common shapes and materials used in plugs

  1. Standard spade type shape:
    a) in metal
    b) in silicone
  2. Elongated spade type shape:
    a) in metal
    b) in silicone

I know metal is easier to clean and silicone can collect odours, but would silicone be more comfortable over metal? And what about shape is best for first timers?

@Tvrboy I would also suggest medium but be aware that metal plugs are quite heavy so I wouldn’t go for anything larger than a medium. I can take my OH’s penis with ease but the large metal one feels significantly bigger than him even though it isn’t.

@S2H, it really is trial and error and down to the individual. Personally I would recommend silicone for a beginner because metal is quite heavy and feels bigger than it is. My favourite material is actually glass - it’s smooth, easy to clean and not as heavy as metal. As for shape it’s, again, a personal preference, I much prefer girth over length even as a beginner but others might disagree. Silicone shouldn’t stain or smell because it isn’t porous - I’ve had issues with plastic toys but never had any problems with silicone.

Main points to consider:

Metal: heavier, can be used cold or warm, jewelled plugs are pretty but the round bases are not as secure as a t-bar base and in my opinion not as comfortable for long term wear.

Silicone: softer (variety of firmness available), lightweight, round or t-bar bases available, not as pretty.

Is there a reason why anal only happens once a year? Is it you, her, or circumstances?
I’m wondering does she enjoy it and would she actually like a plug?

If she does, great! I have this glass one, it’s quite nice.

A medium size silicone would probably do the job. Sounds like we are about the same size and my OH can take me pretty comfortably. As far as butt plug size she prefers medium though she can take a large. Because she likes me to give her vaginal penetration while she wears a butt plug she thinks medium is more pleasurable. By the way she likes a vibrating butt plug over non vibrating.

I would say she enjoys it when we do it, but as it’s a rare occurrence it feels more special when we do it. For that reason I don’t push the issue of doing it more often, if that makes sense?

I don’t want to go too small with a plug, but equally I don’t want to go too big for her first so that it puts her off.

Makes total sense, what about a set of different sizes?

I was swaying towards the medium, but didn’t want to go too big and put her off

I wouldn’t go any smaller than this https://www.lovehoney.co.uk/sex-toys/butt-plugs/jewelled-butt-plugs/p/lovehoney-jewelled-iridescent-aluminium-medium-butt-plug-3-inch/a46756g83946.html
or you may have issues with it coming out at the wrong time?

Straight to a medium. I’m similar size to you and my wife can take me fine. Probably only a few times a year too.

Small butt plug was… Too small!

Medium is just right. My wife likes the LG medium jiggle silicone butt plug.

I did buy her a sexy metal medium butt plug but she says it’s very cold and a bit pointy. Takes a bit of time to get the right temperature and in and she likes it when it’s in. It’s just not as plajn dialing as the silicone softer version.

I’d recommend Steel, it’s far more aesthetic than silicon. I go large but that’s not necessarily the best plan. Steel is good for temperature play and always comes out lovely and warm.
Steel, especially large is reassuringly heavy but watch out if things go bad . This one is a leathal offense weapon. Duck quickly.

Welcome to the forum, I’d suggest getting a buttplug set with 3 different sizes in the pack and possibly look for something with a T bar base as them jewelled plugs have a tendency to get lost all the way up the bum if not careful

I would definitely go for silicone, with a T-bar base. The silicone is much more comfortable, and the regular round bases tend to dig in at the sides (on the outside, especially when sitting).
This one is awesome and quite cheap, perfect for a beginner. Although it says medium, it is quite big:

The vibrating bullet can also be removed to make sitting more comfortable.

Why not get a medium and a large? She may be up for a larger one in the heat of passion and some stretching couldn’t hurt. Let her choose what works and it’s a win/win.

You’d likely just end up buying a larger one eventually anyways…

Buy one from each and see what you like best. This is how you’ll know.

Good luck

A cautionary tale for you. The first time my partner and I tried a butt plug (medium, jewelled base) it felt nice…until it disappeared. I had several very uncomfortable hours and it put me off of butt plugs for quite a few months. Now, my favourite plugs all have t-bars as they are much more comfortable. The one that @sexlover222 linked to above was the first one I bought when thinking about trying again.
