The only issue is that it came out with a lot of tiny air bubbles on the surface. I’m not sure if it’s okay to post a photo of them here, so I won’t unless that’s allowed. It’s a little unhygienic as it can trap liquids in it and makes it quite challenging to clean.
We were wondering if anyone has experience with this and knows whether there’s a way to smooth them out or fill them in? We really love how it turned out overall, but we’d like to improve it if possible.
We’re planning to make more in the future, hopefully a full rainbow set eventually for display, so we’re open to redoing it, but we’d love any tips or advice before we start again.
If there isn’t any way to smooth these holes out, any tips on how to make it the best mold possible would be appreciated!
Hmm, interesting. We did one a long time ago that worked really well, it didn’t have any air bubbles though Are the air bubbles on the mould surface or within the silicone you poured in? I think it’s probably just a case of making sure the silicone is really well mixed and perfectly smooth before pouring it if the latter and I think for the casting mould we used warm water which would decrease any possible bubbles.
As long as the toy is clean (i.e. not just freshly used!), I’m sure you can post it in Images to share in topics to link here and ask advice on the bubble problem. I don’t think the fact it is a replica of your partner’s penis should be a problem. All dildos are probably based on someone’s penis after all.

The bubbles are actually a mix of both on the surface and within the silicone, so it could be something that happened during the mixing or pouring stage, even though we followed the instructions really carefully. We did use warm water as advised, so I’m wondering if maybe air just got trapped in the process somehow.
I’ve gone ahead and posted in the thread you linked with two photos of the finished clone, but it’s still waiting on authorisation at the moment. Hopefully once it’s approved, I can get a bit more feedback there too.

I love that I have my own version of my OH and, as I say, the mould worked really well. We just got a small flat bit near the base where he was a little too girthy but otherwise it’s great. Like you say, it captures all the detail really well. I normally work with concretes plasters and resins but the same techniques alloy to your situation. There are two additional steps you can do in addition to the other useful steps already mentioned and making sure the mixture is thoroughly mixed is important.
While slowly pouring the silicone into the mould use external vibration to knock out any bubbles folded in while pouring the mixture. And keep the vibration going for a while after you have finished the pour.
Use vacuum pressure to draw out the air bubbles once poured out a larger container over it and a vacuum bag that you can use the hoover on to draw out the bubbles.

I’ve never used a clone-a-willy kit but my father was a beekeeper and we used to use moulds for making beeswax candles to sell during better times. I can remember the owl mould being notorious for air bubbles.
@JGood is absolutely right, you need to shake the air bubbles out (I was wondering about using a corded wand against the mould but that’s coming from the woman who infamously used the butt of her cordless wand as a hammer). My other thought would be to tilt the mould slightly ans kind of pour the silicone down the side of the mouls, slowly uprighting it as it fills. Again though, you’ll want to tap it a few times to be sure.
Unfortunately foe your existing bobbly knob, I think it’s probably too late. It’s at least a talking point and a practice piece!

As @JGood said, fold the silicone mix and when pouring pour down something, like your stirring stick, in stead of letting it pour and bubble back.
A vsccum chsmber works wonders but not everyone has such a thing, i use mine when doing resin woodwork stuff.
Think of it like baking a cake aswell, once youve added the flour mix tap the container on the counter a few times to make the air bubble rise to the top
Hmm if it’s silicone then I’d say there’s not much you can do other than next time when you make one, ensure you give the mould a good tap down and wobble while the setting agent is in to ensure as many air pockets rise to the surface
I often work with resin and there’s many tips to try ensure there’s not much trapped air bubbles when pouring into moulds
I was looking at the picture you posted. My wife saw it and said that is too big of a toy to buy find a different one. I told her it was Clone A Willy and she looked at a little closer. We did try tapping the mould during the pour just gently hitting it against a table but maybe it wasn’t enough to get all the bubbles out. We’ll definitely try tilting and pouring down the side next time. I’ve also seen people use vibrating tools (even electric toothbrushes or massage wands) against the mould to help shake bubbles loose, so we might give that a go?
Speaking of serious @JGood the vacuum pressure method sounds really effective, but wow, those devices aren’t cheap! Unless we’re about to launch a side business cloning dicks (tempting), it might be a bit overkill for now. But do you know if there’s a DIY version or workaround?

YouTube is a great ideas factory. But off the top of my head I would go a storage box taller than your clone a willy tube a vacuum bag to go over all of it and either sand or model clay style stuff to hold up the mould tube and your hoover to suck out the air.
