Do you douche before you use butt plugs?

Alright Lovehoneys, I'm interested in getting my first butt plug, the icicles flower to be precise, but I'm not sure if I should get a douche or not so I have some questions about douching:

Do you douche before you use butt plugs or do you only douche when engaging in full-on anal sex? I think I've read a comment somewhere on the forums in which someone mentioned only using their finger for cleaning instead of a douche, do you think that would be effective enough for wearing a butt plug? Or most importantly: is clean-up even neccessary for butt plugs? I mean does movement encourage lube to leak out and thus make a mess or will it only be messy once you take the plug out?

It's entirely up to you whether you wish to douche before using plugs, but if it would give you piece of mind then I'd say go for it. The Icicles toy is so pretty, if I was into butt plugs I'd want it. I don't douche before anal play or anal sex but I hardly ever make bowel movements so I don't feel the need to (sorry TMI!)

Well I like the idea of being clean but the whole douching thing for some reason seems a bit scary to me, especially with the whole "don't do it too often, you'll disturb your guts" thing. I don't consider your statement to be TMI by the way, I think it's useful to know when discussing these things actually. What do you consider to be hardly ever though, if you don't mind me asking?

You don't have to do anything, it's a personal decision. There's a couple of natural things that can help to keep clean down there. Eating fiber filled foods will help to keep waste well formed which makes emptying the bowels cleaner. Keeping your water intake up will also help to empty bowels cleaner and easier.

I only go about 1-2 times a month.

I think there is a major distinction to be drawn between a douche which only washes out the rectum and an enema that washes out the large intestine/small intestine/ears/nose/throat! depending on how far you take it.

I don't think douching even every day will affect the gut flora which is what they are concerned about.

Oh wow, I'm not even close to hardly ever then. I think the longest time I've gone without a poop is 3 days. Well I guess for anal play it's perfect if you don't have to go often though! I've actually read about people going without food for 24 hours just for anal but I could never do that..

Anyway, I really appreciate your tips about fiber and water. I already replaced most of what I drink with water but I'm still nowhere near 8 glasses of fluid on a day. I know I should drink more though so I guess I can use this as a motivation now :) As for fibers yeah I could use some improvement on that area as well because I definitely notice the difference between days where I eat lots of fibers vs. days where I don't. I'm not suggesting you should but I think there would be no harm in fairly frequent douches. I have sometimes done ones on consecutive days - once to be pegged and the next to do some electrically stimulated pelvic floor exercises.

I have actually never douched. I tried once, and got terrible stomach ache, I think there is a word for it but I was so uncomfortable and felt I had terrible trapped wind (which I have always had since I was a baby), so give it a miss.

When I am just playing by myself I'm not too fussed if there is a little mess, but when we have anal sex I will always make sure I have empty bowels and will jump in the shower and clean as best I can.

I have never douched either...For butt plugs I sometimes use condoms over them to make cleaning easier...I don't do a lot of anal play so not like I get through a lot of condoms!!

Never had a cock in my ass and don't really see it would be a problem...

I have the icicles flower plug and it's so pretty and little you're going to love it! I will say I just make sure my bowels are empty before anal play (I've never had anal sex though) and give myself a quick wash in that area. I don't douche but I suppose if I were planning on having anal sex I would because I'd be too worried about the mess and clean up!

On occassion I douche, but I've started putting a condom over the plug instead usually. Makes clean up (even if there isn't any *ahem* mess) a doddle. Like the others say, just try to empty yourself and generally it will be fine. The few times I've had anal sex I never douched and nothing untoward happened :)

I've only douches a couple of times, it does nothing to help my IBS. So i jsy make sure I'm empty and as clean as I possible can down there. I have a lot of anal and anal play. If something comes that that shouldn't, then I'm not going to freak out about it!

I do suffer from the odd bit of wind though afterwards every now and then when I shower later on, again this could be my IBS. Again I eat right, drink plenty of water, am always clean and empty so I'm not bothered much!

I've only douched once and found it uncomfortable. Never had a problem with mess for plugs or anal sex. Did once with beads tho and it put me off using them 😕 so may do if I decide to use them again..

Every time! I have a shower attachment. Deep fisting and pegging requires a deep clean of the intestinal openings but do it an hour before anal play!

Thanks for all your words of wisdom everyone ^.^! I have decided to only get the butt plug first and just see how things go. If I feel like it gets to messy then I can always order a douche later, if I end up liking the whole butt plug thing that is :)

So yeah, now the long wait for my order begins - eek! Hopefully this new experience will end up being a nice way to start 2016 :D If not well then at least I gave it a shot!

Hygiene is key as is safe sex. Anal douching or enemas are not only crucial but pleasurable as well. With douching, if done properly- I am talking about depth of cleaning, temperature of water as well the right kit or product you need, - will prevent injuries as you might have been informed before, when butt plugs or other anal toys get into contact or rub with mess from inside can tear the skin tissues and this can cause bleeding and might put you off anal play forever.

When you douche or administer enemas, you will have the confidence to play as you will be sure that nothing will come out and cause embarassment to you or others engaged in play with you. Also note that uaing butt plugs and anal toys will be much easier as there will be more space inside for them. You will not waste any of your expensive lubes either.

to be honist it depends on what we plan on doing. as long as i have gone a few hours before i wouldnt for a butt plug, but if we plan on using a bigger toy that goes a bit deeper then i would want to clean it out first. its not actually messy normally if you dont, i just like knowing 100% it will be clean.

I have recently bought some butt plugs and a douche for some anal training. I have tried using them with and without douching first...

As most of the advice on here says as long as you go to the toilet before hand then you should be good either way.

Putting a condom on to your plug is great advice it does make clean up all easier if you do get any mess.

I am loving my experiences with them, but my plugs also rub on my prostate which has given me a couple of leg quivering orgasms...
