Many people are now getting fed up with Ai whenever they are searching for something, I honestly got to say they are forcing it too much now, for those that don’t know already if you type - Ai in the search bar it will stop it happening when you do a search.
And there you have it search results back to before AI came to take control.
Sometimes. I remember it effectively calling me a “hidden mysogynist” once for having an opinion about women who wear lots of make up, and think bare-faced babes like myself should "embrace our beauty* and wear more make-up. I was like “excuse me? If they can have an opinion, so can I”
Yes I think alot ignore it but it’s always up at the top with a ton of useless advice, That’s why I always put - ai in front of what I’m searching, so everything is at the top of the search.
I always intend to do that, but do often forget so just scroll by whatever nonsense it said. If I get a paid survey after, I’ll always say the AI didn’t give the right information.
If you’re looking for something you want genuine input on and more of a conversation then I’ve found it’s great for some things.
For example, we hosted a bbq recently and I asked it for some suggestions. It offered me a menu, alternatives, made budget considerations, variations for the veggies, offered to make a shopping list for me etc.
I broadly agree though that I dislike it for a lot of things.
I’m sick to death of AI infiltrating everything. I scroll past the annoying AI suggestions at the top of the search bar, it’s very often misleading information.
Also, I know it’s meant for making life easier but to some extent it’s discouraging people from actually using their brain.
Saw an advert the other day, think it was a famous footballer planning the timings of cooking on a barbecue for a group of people. Nothing wrong with that, but it made me think…in the future will people get so used to A.I. thinking for them and organising things that using your brain and common sense to prioritise and organise things will become a lost art?
You already see it to a certain extent with drivers blindly following their Satnav’s into tricky or dangerous situations. A.I. is not to be trusted!
The other day someone asked ChatGPT a question about something that maybe you would Google. Then after this, some maths needed doing. They started to ask ChatGPT how to do the calculation, forgetting that their phone already has a calculator app.
I generally ignore it for Google searches. AI can be good as I use it alot in my job but I think lots of people assume it is always right without doing any other research. Essentially aslong as your check that it’s correct then it’s all good.
I’ve used Google/AI o sometimes to find solutions to problems, for example, I lost a corydora to heatstroke the other day - I knew my water parameters were perfect so I knew it wasn’t that, ChatGPT asked me what the tank temperature was (32¯C) and suggested I turn off the heater and float some ice blocks - in a tropical tank - to get the temperature to where it should be (24¯C). ChatGPT also worked out that the aquarium hood was trapping heat on top of what we’ve already had lately, preventing natural water evaporation and overheating the tank (the hood was black). Because of AI I’ve now got a mesh top tank as it’s better for the inhabitants (better temperature regulation and oxygen/gas exchanges), and my two remaining cories have got back to being pigs with fins. AI didn’t solve my problem, but it helped me solve my problem. Without it I may have lost more fish, or even given up fishkeeping comp[etely.
But yeah, if you then ask the AI to do calculations or something? Well… then help us. It can (and should) be used as a tool to help us find solutions, but not relied upon to provide the solution itself.
This is already happening though not solely due to AI.
Yesterday in a coffee shop, a teacher was at the next table over from me with 3 other people and they were talking about the kids, what they could and couldn’t do, math in particular. Schools say kids now have smartphones to do the calculations and she was talking about how they can’t do basic things in math etc.
It’s known in both England and the U.S. that they have had to change clocks in schools in places because kids can’t read the analog clock. The clock says it’s 2:10 p.m. and they have no clue what time it is while looking at it. They need it to be digital.
There are articles online about this happening in both England and in the U.S.
Back to your point about AI though. I think it’s just going to add onto what’s already been happening and make it worse.
A lot of things will become a lost art… sadly.
There are many articles online about how poorly prepared many young kids are in schools today (in the U.S.). Many don’t know their home telephone number (we all used to know so many different phone numbers in our heads as we had no cellphones, today hardly anyone remembers a phone number and certainly not the kids but a young kid should know a home number, or mom’s cell number etc for emergencies).
Kids can’t write their own names or spell their own names in many early grades now.
Yeah, I’m an old codger, but this is spiraling down the wrong way, I mean collectively. I think AI will just make it worse.
