Now, this is guna probably sound alittle wierd (or you might think I'm lacking in self-confidence, which I'm not thank-you) but what I would like to know is has any1 ever been left questioning themselves after watching a cartoon?
I'll explain. The other night I caught the tail end of the Simpsons and 1 of Marge's twin sisters was getting married to a woman (well, turns out she was a he) but the jist is Marg didn't know. Cue flashback to her childhood, she is dressing up in her mum's clothes and her sister is dressing up ymca-stylee in a builders outfit!
So thing is where I'm confused is I used to do that (not builders outfits) - always play the man and I was extremely tom boyish. I guess I still am really - am certainly NOT a girly girl. BUT I am totally straight.
I am probably just being totally over sensitive and its just typical stereo-typing. Still...................makes me wonder?????
AND, it makes me wonder if anyone else has been left somewhat confused and questioning themselves.............or is that just me? ? (its ok, you can tell me - I'm tough enuff!!)xx
As for myself. I was never the girly girl. Still not actually. When I was a child, my grandmother would forever try to turn me in to a sweet, sweet granddaughter girl who I just was never going to be. She would by me dolls and I would decapitate them, there was one time she got be a big beautiful horse stable set (when she tried to get me interested in ponies and horse riding etc) and I set it all up, had the horses 'grazing' in the fields, the little toy collie dog 'nipping' at their ankles, the stable keepers were moving the bails of hay (which were supposed to be used for jumping fences as shown on the front of the box) and got a bit bored so asked her where the sheep and cows were for it! Lol! She was a bit stunned to come in to the room to find a full working farm!
When I was young I loved my sisters barbie dolls but for the sole purpose of how easily you could cut off their hair and tear off their heads my sister found this funny.
I told my OH about the episode and he just laffed!! But its funny how it riled me so much.Hey ho.
Me and my sisters had cindys and they were easy to deform too. I had 1 doll when I was little but she never got a lookin - the play-people got WAY more attention and outside was fun coz the extension was getting built and worms and trenches as deep as I was tall were WAY more fun too!
I do totally agree with you tho AA - personality is by far number 1 over sexuality. x
