I've never understood why people feel the need to give a second by second account of their lives. Updating photos, comments, 1000's of virtual friends etc. Don't get me started on its use for bullying especially among children.
Completely agree! I have people popping up on my news feed saying "just ate beans" "really tired" "baby kept me up all night" (every single day!)
But what bothers me the most is the cryptic bitching. "Can't understand some people" "A certain someone really pissed me off today"
Arghhh! And then someone comments saying "are you okay babe" ... "don't want to talk about it". Well don't write about it on frigging facebook then you attention seeking idiot!!!
I dont use facebook much, I mean I can go on for a week, 2 or even month without posting anything on my facebook. And although I do check it daily, its mainly so I can use the chat or send message to friends. I have relatively lot of friends added, but lot of them are people from my field, so I am using it a bit as to keep touch with my colleagues.
I mostly use facebook as a messaging tool. It's handy for communicating with my university friends as a group, so much easier than email, but Italk to other friends too. Sometimes I play Facebook games when I'm bored, abnd when I'm on computers other than the laptop (which can't handle them). I haven'played my current FB game much since I went home for Christmas and I don't miss it too much.
There was a time when I played a lot of different facebook games, used the drawing tool etc, and chatted to groups of people with similar interests and made friends with a few of those. I don't really do most of those things any more. Interests change, and Facebook loves to change things, which is off-putting.
I do post status update concerning things that are of interest to me, things that excite or annoy me, but usually the point is self-expression
Up to a point I like knowing what's going on with people I don't really see around any more but still like, such as former work colleagues and so forth, but yes, sometimes I wonder at the stuff that gets posted. (They probably wonder the same about me and my updates though!) There are some people on my feed who post things like "I'm so proud of my children" and similar things every other day. That's pretty annoying.
I think Facebook is what everyone (and the people on their friends list) make of it. I can use it how I want and that's cool with me.
What I really don't get is Twitter. I joined it just to follow 2 particular feeds, though I added a few more that were linked to the above, just in case they were of interest. But to be honest, I find Twitter largely annoying and pointless and check it once every couple of weeks, if that. I just don't see how some people obsess over following celebrities and why celebs have Twitter fights and all that nonsense!
I mainly use facebook for keeping in touch with friends and sharing jokes, anecdotes, songs, news and links and for that it is the best most easiest way because stuff can go viral very quickly - post a funny picture on a friends wall, your friends friends can share it on their wall etc. etc.
Of course there are downsides to this, but thats why you have to choose your friends and what you share wisely.
i dont use facebook for two reasons
1 ,i dont have time to keep on posting
2 ,i have got better things to do
I have facebook purely to keep in touch with my family and see pic's of the nieces and nephews. Along the way I've picked up a few friend requests from friends and people who I look at and think "who the hell are you?". General rule if I have seen the person in the "real" world for two years I delete them unless they qualify for a family exemption. My cousins Kate and Charlotte currently are qualifying for the family exemption as I last saw them at our grandfathers funeral.
I never used it , but most my friends and family do use it . I have never taken to it i just don`t see the point of it really.
I just don`t get it maybe its me lol.
I'm not on Facebook either. I refuse to be tracked from cradle to grave. It is got this reason I'm not on any other social network, and I don't use google. I am NOT here to make them money. And I refuse to live under the control of an unelected corpocracy.
brockleyfox, well i'm not into conspiracy but some do say the CIA invented Facebook in order to create a detailed database of millions of people worldwide. Sinister:)

Actually you are, and if you weren't the internet as it is today wouldn't exist - I would much rather the internet exist and be paid for by advertisements than it exist and have to pay to use sites like google and facebook.
And if you think staying away from facebook and good means you won't be tracked from cradle to grave...good luck..if thats you're intention I suggest cancelling your internet subscription, closing your bank account and stuffing your matress with cash, getting rid of everything electronic such as mobile phones, in fact you'd probably have to become a squatter...you get the idea..like it or not there are so many indicators and tabs kept on people nowdays. I'm not saying thats right, but thats the way it is.

I don't believe that for one second. Not to say the CIA doesn't request data from facebook but that is tosh
Facebook like everything else has its uses. Makes a good photo gallery
You just have to watch your security and who you allow access to your data
I use fb but only to be in touch with some people I don't see often... some friends that are far from me. Don't see anything interesting in spending more time on fb.
I'm very nosy so I use facebook to check out other people's photos, but I don't update my status 12 times a day to let people know I've just had a sandwich for lunch. The last time I updated my status was about 2 weeks ago.
There is one person I'm friends with on facebook who updates her status daily to tell everyone how long her two kids slept for the night before. Seriously, no one actually cares. I don't understand the point of saying stuff like 'Emma slept 7 til 7 good girl x' or 'well done amy for day 4 of no dummy day or night' (these are actual statuses I've just copied) Another things that annoys me is people who constantly complain about their jobs, or that it's too early to go to work. Shut up and get on with it.
What annoys me about it is people moaning about what other people post. There is at least 3 ways to stop seeing people moan about early mornings etc. Block them, delete them or set your newsfeed settings so it doesn't show that persons status updates.

Let's face it, the Nazi's wanted less information than modern society does, it's a fact of modern life, accept it or go join the hermits with tin foil hat's :P
I think there has to be a certain degree of opposition otherwise there would be far more serious tabs kept on us, but I also think people make a far bigger deal out of certain issues than they need to - a very good example is the massive furore surrounding Googles decision to consolidate data across their services such as youtube and google in order to simplify and enhance targetted advertisements..many people made out this was a huge breach of privacy laws without actually understanding what Google were doing and that there was no additional information being stored about you.

What I like about facebook is you begin to realise after a while that you may not be as crazy as you thought you were after seeing the way a lot of people act on there lol
There are a few groups of offenders that can be annoying on facebook.
Of course the constant whingers who update their status every hour about what else has just gone wrong in their life. (It is usually something as pathetic as a smashed plate or the shop was closed but to them its the end of the world)
The parents who go on and on about every teeny tiny milestone their kids go through. "oooh first tooth fallen out" "ooohh used potty for first time" "First day of school" and upload 6000 pics a day of little one eating lunch or crawling about.
The constant spammers....The ones who spam links after links, videos, songs, funny pics. Some is ok but when it fills your whole wall feed...
The attention seekers....Either being mysterious and so vague in their posts that they get 100 comments asking "whats up" or screaming about how life is so unfairrr and hinting at full mental breakdown so that people come rushing around to reassure them they are beautiful and perfect and doing a great job, followed by "Thanks guys, I appreciate it" then ten mins later another whinge lol
Overall though the ones I hate the most are the GRAMMAR POLICE! Why? Why? I mean, text speak is annoying I will admit, but seriously getting an arse on because someone typed the wrong version of "there" or forgot to capitalise or didnt use the correct version of your/you're. LOL As long as you can understand someone and they are not going out of their way to use text speak and abbrevs why get so worked up?? Jeeeez, you are not writing a CV here its just social networking!! ol
I like to just sit back and watch most of the time on facebook. Watch the crazy emerge and feel like I am among friends, each one as strange as the next and love em all lol

I can't exactly predict what someone is going to post.

What's quite ironic and amusing is that exact same type of stuff (by yourself included missy :p) gets posted on here day in day out (what cheered me up, rant alert etc.)
I mean...whats worse...telling mini life events to real life friends (well..generally) or telling the same thing to a bunch of random strangers? Hmmm....haha

I haven't posted anything like that in a while but you do it too mister :P There's no way you can not talk about your life on here, most people post about their experiences but it's more acceptable than putting the same thing on facebook I guess.
