Feeling old 🤣

I’m 37, and lower back ache is a daily burden. I’d buy an ergonomic chair it it would actually fit under my desk :winking_face_with_tongue:

I definitely resonate with that. The only thing that keeps my back happy is lots of core work, stretching, and walking. If I’m lazy it only takes a couple days and I’m in pain. I’ve lived with it for 20 years or more, so I know what to do.

I am prone to lower back trouble, to the point I can’t put my socks on sometimes, but i am very careful in what and how I lift stuff.

Many years ago hubby did his back in when he was putting on his socks. I got a telephone call from his mum while I was at work telling me how awful I was leaving him at home to cope by himself and that he was in a right state. So I went home and he was stood in the kitchen making himself toast.

Mid to upper thirties have given back pain and now this week my knee is giving out for no reason  this heat wave/humidity seems to be harder this year for some reason. I try to stay in shape but staying in shape almost makes me feel more old.

I try and make people smile and laugh wherever I go . I really target older people the most and they often ask how I can be that cheerful ? I mention I had heart surgery in 1962 and should have been dead by 1966 , along with should have died ten more times after that . So everything after 66’ is the bonus round ! At about the age of 55 I was thinking it would be faster to list the body parts that felt good than to try and list what hurt or did not work well . Caring for my wife and doing 100% of the housework , yard work , driving , fills my days way too full . Yesterday I felt like I was on death’s doorstep . I had to drive a distance to get a specialty medicine for her , had to go to grocery store . Though started the day ( after a particularly bad nights sleep ) and watered the garden and flowers . My back has been extra crappy for the last two months , unable to take one of my motorcycles for even a short ride . I am 68 and on zero medications and even a short ride can repair my brain , riders refer to it as helmet time ( a reset ) . My brain often thinks I am only 55 , but body says more like 105 . Hell , I woke up this morning , so I will continue on ! Group hug :people_hugging:

Me too, always cracking jokes and witty comments and never take myself seriously, not always appreciated, but it beats being outwardly miserable even if you’re screaming inside! Life is far too short for that. Hugs :people_hugging:

Another example of not being young . I had a photo I wanted to post before our 250th 4th of July Celebration . I forgot to before the third , when I remembered I rushed to get it in . Totally forgot to cover my nipples , rejected . By the time I submitted corrected photo , too late . It just posted today .Glad I was much better when I was a rescue person !

I was talking to my wife and her friend a couple days ago and he said ā€œ getting older isn’t any funā€. I said I disagreed, getting older isn’t about not having difficulties or pain, it’s about how you treat yourself. I work out more than an hour every day, meditate, do TaiChi, and ā€œ treat myselfā€ to long bike rides, especially if it’s hot outside. I told them I look in a mirror and see an old man. My wife says I could pass for someone 10 years or more younger. That made me feel good. Getting older isn’t always great, but you can still make it better, if you’re wiling to work at it..

I have arthritis in the arch of my left foot due to a very large horse standing on my foot many many years ago (he was called timber for a reason). Means I can’t do any sport that involves running or jumping and there are certain styles of shoes I can’t wear due to them putting pressure on the top of my foot. Sometimes accidents/injuries we get when young can cause problems later in life.

Yeah a few years ago when I told some workmates I would be 60 that year they looked surprised and said they assumed i was early 50’s! :joy:

I had that at the last job I did I was well into my 50s nearer to 60 actually and someone was celebrating their 60th and they asked me how many years was it for my 50th. I told them I was way past 50 and they didn’t believe me.

I play masters basketball twice a week and also attend a training session one morning, the guy who runs these session’s includes some warmups and stretches is 78. A couple of these exercises he stresses to put your arms out to get your balance first, as one of the younger ones attending i dont need to yet but am aware that balance is something that deteriorates with age. I started to feel old the other day in the shower when washing my hair and turned around to rinse it of and felt off balance, oh my god I am getting old!

You can dislodge the crystals in your inner ear by doing certain movements, which will mess up your balance. There is a therapy called the ā€œ Eppley maneuver ā€œ that can help sort that out.
I have a neurological condition that cause me to be off balance a lot of the time, and have been dealing with it since 1977. Balance issues aren’t always about getting old. And many people who fall as they get older because of poor fitness, they lose muscle mass as they age and cannot stop from getting off balance.

My mother in law had shingles inside her ear and down her throat. She was in her late fifties at the time and she has never been the same since. She went from being active and doing lots of gardening and walking to needing a walking stick to stay upright. You never know what is around the corner and it does not matter if you eat right and exercise things can still happen that can change everything.
