Your spot on there @Wood-Nymph I have been suffering with MS for 40 years now so am unable to do much exercise now unfortunately. A friend i worked with for many years was very active, always walking. Unfortunately cancer ended her life last year, she was only in her 50’s. Everyone should do things now because no one knows whats around the corner.
Samantha here. Good question. I would say watching my kids grow up makes me feel old. Technology makes me feel old too.
On the whole though, I probably feel younger now than I did 6 years ago. Gone from being with a controlling ex…with nothing to look forward to. To a life full of fun and making memories. And lots of sex of course.
Ben on the other hand has gone from being a bachelor to living with 3 woman. Two of whom are teenagers
. Hes always wanted to be grey and skint, im sure of it
. I’m 39, he’s 41.
This heat will be kicking your arse then sorry ![]()
Mid 50s work in construction sometimes im fine sometimes i think is it worth it, mrs bustywife says one more year. And having a son turning 18 does make me feel old
I still remember when my nephew turned 50 , three years ago . My oldest grandson is 23 . Have watched families move into our neighbor hood and watched their children go from babies to graduation . I remember watching the first human feet step on to the moon . I still remember my first girlfriend from 1972 . I remember when hydroplanes were using V-12 engines from WWII fighters , before going to turbines . I might add they sounded way better with the V-12s . Black and white TVs and when 8 track tapes came out . Feeling old , but often remember the good times .
You are right. I was talking with my therapist and told him about the struggles I have been experiencing over our sex life. He wanted to dismiss my thoughts because statistically people over 70 weren’t having much sex anyway ( according to his data ) which is immaterial in my view. I told him to think of sex like a pie, take 3/4 of the pie away. Now, you LOVE that pie, and want to savor the remainder because that is the last slice you will ever eat ! That is how I am approaching the rest of my life, sex and anything else. You do not know what is around the corner, especially at my age. I’ll be dammed if I will just sit back and let experiences go by without trying them.
I remember the moon landing too, I would have been 5 and I vividly remember playing in the back garden on a sunny July day, and being called in through the open wooden French doors to watch it on our tiny by today’s standards black and white TV. Funny how these little details stick with us. My mum still lives in that house and that room is now the dining room and the French door are now UPVC patio doors, the garden is very different too, not just lawn, but a mature garden or shrubs, trees and plants.
I have a photo of me about 18 months old on mum’s front lawn sitting on a blanket next to our dog at the time. I have recreated that picture twice in the last 20 years, each time with my current dog at the time. The first pic there is a vintage motorcycle and sidecar in the background on next door’s drive. The recent one’s the background is shrubbery! Virtually nobody had a car in those days, now everyone has 2 or 3 on their drives/fronts. That makes me old!
Turning on the TV yesterday and finding Champion the Wonder Horse on the Talking Pictures channel. Suddenly I’m reminded of watching that as a young child in the early 1970’s and that made me feel old!
Six weeks holiday in the early 70’s, the mornings were full of ancient black and white shows from the U.S. and Europe to keep us kids quiet if it rained! Champion the Wonder Horse, Whirlybirds, Robinson Crusoe, Belle and Sebastian, White Horses to name a few! The most horrific of all was The Singing Ringing Tree!
The Singing Ringing Tree was surreal to say the least!![]()
I loved all the ones you mentioned and more! Those are great memories of that feeling of the 6 week holiday lasting forever , long hot sunny days spent out playing in the garden, a feeling of life being so simple and carefree.
The 6 week holidays were always epic and carefree and something to look forward too, but to me the 6th week was always a bit of a downer with the forthcoming upheaval of moving up a year at school or worse moving up to secondary school.
Been in pain for a couple of days on the right side of my back, what use to make me feel old was my back locking up while I was walking, I would end up in so much pain I would be walking while bent over as I wouldn’t be able to straighten myself up.
Yeah i am careful of my lower back, it doesn’t happen often, but sometimes it locks up so painfully I can’t get my socks on. Only started happening in my 50’s!
It started to happen in my early 30’s
Job = absolutely no health and safety training.
And when I started pushing for health and safety courses for everyone that’s when I started to get treated worse than I already was.
The job I was doing wasn’t a great job for keeping your back painless.
Last week we had to put down my best friend . After building her a coffin I had to dig her grave . We buried her right next to my wife’s best friend we lost last December . When I dug Loki’s grave the ground was wetter and the digging was easier . This time the glacial till and clay was much harder for Ghost’s grave . I had to take three breaks to get it dug . The house seems empty now . It is amazing how much I miss my good girl kitty . The cost of veterinarians is crazy . Before the dog died , we had spent $9,000 and they still did not have a diagnosis . For my cat , we spent $1,000 and in order to find out what the issues were and then if they could treat her it would have been another thousand . Her is one photo where she was assisting me . https://lovehoneyforum.com/t/members-photo-uploads/257652/906
I am so sorry for your loss. I have had to have two of my kitties pts in the last couple of years. The vets charge the earth for tests only to tell you there is nothing that can be done. One had pancreatic cancer and the other had a combination of heart problems and cancer. Nothing they could do in either case. I take comfort in thinking I have given them the best lives I could. I still have three and the oldest is 18 and she is more lively than the younger ones.
We got Ghost in 2018 , a rescue . They figured she was 5 or 6 . I miss her a thousand times a day . She followed me around , went out when I was working in the back yard or tanning . When my wife got Loki he was a tiny puppy . Ghost had had kittens and she decided Loki was her kitten . She would drive him nuts grooming him . They played often . She brought us " presents " for years . Live mice , birds and even a young rabbit . I had not allowed myself to cry for at least 12 years . After the last time I saved my wife’s life . While comforting her before lethal injection , I cried a lot . As I told her what a good girl she was , she was purring . Just typing it I am tearing up . I have cried many times in the last three days . She loved me more than anyone since my mother . My wife talks about getting another dog and cat . I am resisting because either of us could drop dead any time . Plus if any extensive vet work needed , we really can not afford $5,000 and way up . Everything around the house reminds me of her . It will take me some time to lessen my expectation of seeing her . Now I just have my wife to worry about and take care of , and to a lesser degree try and keep myself running .
So sorry for your loss, they hit as hard as family members when we lose them. ![]()
I was told by doc that eating nuts…walnuts, almonds , hazelnut etc, is very good for lowering cholesterol.
I have them everyday now for breakfast , with yogurt honey & asstd fruit.. My levels have improved so that I have more good cholesterol than bad.
So sorry to hear that @Oldman Losing a pet is so upsetting.
I remember crying at the vets surgery when we had to have our dog put to sleep, in fact I cried for a week afterwards too. That was around 15 years ago and we’ve still got his basket and collar because I can’t bring myself to part with them.
