Film production for home taping?

Bit of a random question, or probably more of an idle thought I guess!

Watching some p0rn earlier I noticed how many “real couple” type channels there are, all essentially based on the concept of a person filming couples (who presumably applied to be on that channel) to create content for the production studio’s channel(s). Vs say an OnlyFans or AdultWork based performer hiring a pro studio to film content for the performers own channel (again, this is seemingly a popular/easy to find service).

Nothing wrong with either concept of course but it did get me thinking that, if you/couple/group wanted to make a well filmed/edited vid but didn’t want it put out there for the world to find, just have in the drawer for posterity, could you hire the same type of production company to create a tape soley for your own use only?

Obviouslywith the ease (and affordability) of decent 1080/4k cameras and editing apps its likely to be a super niche market - but the thought remained that if you wanted an actual camera operator, an editor (vs loads of your own static cameras (or a tracking type gimbal) and self edit), could you hire a pro outfit to do it for you?

A quick Google only turned up one UK pro company who would film/edit and create a vid for personal use only, though you can hire studios for your own use/film yourself. Which im sure is a far bigger market for safe filming for OF/AW type creators.

Like I say its probably not even a question by this stage(!) but it just struck me that, if you wanted a good, pro video made just to watch yourselves then: a. Could you hire a pro outfit and I guess, b. (An actual question!) if you have/do regulary film yourselves would you ever consider hiring a pro outfit as a one off or for special life event (say landmark birthday, wedding night etc)?

Any flagship mobile from the last 5 years on a gimble or tripod and some £25-£50 defused light pods can get you a decent setup and then recording in HDR/4K is easy including slow motion if you wanted. You can even edit in your phone or tablet too.

Why pay when you can do it yourself, while learning a new skill and have the excuse for vast amounts of more sex to practice with.

I guess that’s a part of my question/thought really. Accessible tech has removed the need for investment and skills - and with modern editing tool workflows made things super easy without having to really get too much into the process if you didn’t want to - which is why I was curious around production studios. The benefit of lots of practice is a good shout though, didn’t think of that!

Looking at some of the real couple type sites it seems they’ almost used as a marketing/way to launch own channels (reading some of the comments it seemed a few performers were ID’d from OF/AW/own channels etc).

The element of having a dedicated camera operator intrigued me though. Has POV/static vids now become more common and made us not miss a roving camera? And if you wanted that, could you find someone?

All valid points and while I’ve advocated for the benefit of trying it yourself. It does seem that there are fewer companies out there that are willing or able to do this type of work. But they do exist and it seems to depend mostly on how you phrase your search.

Interesting, I found a few places you could hire their studio but only one who said they’d film for private use (vs filming for pro/semi-pro OF etc).

Not something I’m looking at myself (either to hire or setup a business, think I’d die of embarrassment on either!) Just made me wonder of you were truly amateur could you still hire somewhere.

I recall seeing an advert years back for a company who offered to make a p0rn film with you - think they were actresses who had a camera basically! - and wondered if still a thing.

I reckon there are enough one man bands out there that would definitely do it for you. I know videographers who are also excellent photographers. The ones I know make their main money from things like wedding films, but have done some boudoir photography. Not all or even many would be willing to make the leap to producing porn, but I have no doubt there are some out there that would!

Not something I’d spend money on though! I’d rather get a decent ring light for my phone and shoot it in cinematic mode on that.

Very true, probably find someone (maybe not a specialist) who would film if you asked.

Likewise I could think of far better ways to spend the cash - either on kit or pretty much anything else!

You also have the worry of them keeping a copy. Breaking contract. And just being human.

Definitely would be my biggest worry, certainly the editing element would give me the most concern as to burning all digital copy.

So all the skills and capabilities you are looking for are going to be available from almost any wedding/birthday/special even photographer/videographer.

In theory you can hire them to do this work like they do any other. All paid work is “for your own use.” If I do a wedding shoot, the client owns the images, not me. Its paid work. Real estate gets a little more complicated because of property ownership but normally the images are owned by the Realtor. Alternately the realtor can waive ownership but that usually has a price tag attached to it and then the photographer has to get the release from the owner. Anyway, the point is that if you pay for the work, you own the result. It doesnt matter how it gets used after that.

The hard part is finding someone willing to do the work at a price you are willing to pay. Some people will never do spicy work. Some will only do it for an upcharge. Beware of anyone offering anything less than market rate!!! Those images/videos are going to end up on the internet! What you are paying for is your privacy. I cannot stress that enough. You are paying for privacy. This is not the time to cheap out.

I am with @JGood and advocate for DIY. Some unsolicited tips:

  • As much light as you think you need, its 10x that. 4K needs a LOT of light. 4K 60fps needs even more. Inexpensive LED lights have made this easy to do. Bounce them off your ceiling.
  • Use microphones and an external sound recorder. The real difference between good video and crap video is the sound. You can probably find a used TASCAM DR-40 for $100 or less.
  • Rule of thumb for video is 10-1 - 10 minutes of raw video = 1 minute of edited. For sexy time, I would say its closer to 3-1. Dont be afraid to shot lots, cut lots.
  • Go through your script before hand. The process of thinking through what you want to do and shoot will help you set things up.
  • More cameras is more gooder. 4K action cams are dirt cheap. Buy 4 (shoulder/shoulder/foot/foot) and set them up at different shooting angles and then just go at it. You dont need someone rotating around, you just need to edit in during post. You can add a 5th for “crotch cam.”

Good luck, have fun.

Thank you for the excellent advice.

Likewise, amazing tips. Thanks for sharing :+1:

Great advice, especially the audio comment. Audio for any video is at least 50% of the production value.

As for shooting remember wide, near and closeup views and then edit them together to give a nice flow to the video. Also don’t stay on one view for long periods time. It might be the same act such as a blowjob but mix in a wide angle and then a closeup then back to wide or a near shot.

Anyway a little video making education, thought and effort can turn a so-so video into a scorching hot one even for the same level of sex.
