I do love gloves. I also love wood. If you go more flat and on the fleshiest part of the bottom, wood has less sting. But I do agree gloves have their own world.

To answer the original post, one of our favourite toys is a cross between the two.
It has a dark coloured wooden handle about 9" long and a double leather bit about 18 " dovetailed in via brass screws.
The two leather parts have patterned silver studs (like a punk’s belt) holding them together, apart from the last 6" which means they clap together loudly when they hit the target enhancing the impact sound too even with lighter strokes.
It is one of the few items we have not from LH, but a gay themed shop in Soho that had all manner of interesting stuff suitable for all.
Probably means I can’t show a pic of it though.

I’m not really that fussed about material or objects to be spanked with. However the best thing I’ve ever been spanked of was a huge wooden paddle with these rather sharp plastic spiky disks attached to it. Even off a little slap of it, it managed to draw blood it felt amazing, especially because I couldn’t control it. However the OH got scared and decided not to use it anymore. This isn’t an object of our own, it was readily available at a sex dungeon we hired for the night. Hopefully our next visit she’ll hit me a few more times with it.
