foreskin doesn’t retract over my penis head. is this ok?

Hi All.

A sensitive question, I am 28 year old male, married and have been having regular sex since I was a teenager, (although I haven’t slept with that many people lol just lots of times with a smallish number).

My foreskin doesn’t retract over my penis head when I am erect or when I have sex, eg, the head of the penis does not protrude out of my foreskin, the head is always covered.

When watching porn I see all the men’s foreskins drop below the penis head.

Am I the only one with a permanently ‘up’ foreskin covering the penis? Is this a problem I need to get checked out?

Ive just seen there is a similar thread to this, but would welcome input anyway, apologies

Does your foreskin retract when in a flaccid state? I only ask because I know that not being able to retract the foreskin can cause problems in terms of hygeine and infection.

If you're able to retract and clean your penis when you're not erect, and you're not in any pain or discomfort, I'd say you were perfectly fine as you are!

Not being able to retract the foreskin at all can be a medical issue that needs to be at least addressed by your doctor, as the build-up of bacteria can cause long-term issues. If you're worried I'm sure your GP would be able to take a look and let you know whether anything is abnormal.

Hi lucy, when flaccid I can retract my foreskin quite a lot and expose much of the top side of the penis (I still can’t fully retract it as it is un comfy) and can wash it well. After reading a similar thread on the forum it may be that I have connection skin from the penis to the foreskin as I feel it go tight at the front side (away from the body) of my penis.

The most embarrassing thing I remember was my mother telling me I was born with a tight foreskin and that I should massage the forskin. She said this was to avoid being circumcised. Go see a doctor.

does a 7 yr old have to be told to massage his willy lol

It's called phimosis, if you want to Google it. The skin around the tip of your foreskin is not as elastic as it should be, so it can't expand enough for the head of your penis to pass through it. If you go to the GP then they'll prescribe you a steroid cream and recommend stretching excercises you can perform to slowly loosen the skin up until it retracts. In some cases stretching doesn't work, so then the only other solution would be a full or partial circumcision. If you're not currently having any problems with it, and are able to practice good hygiene and have sex without discomfort, then surgery would seem rather extreme in the event that the stretching didn't work.

What you're describing here sounds a lot like the frenulum, which is a normal part of the penis. Some men, however, have a shorter/tigther frenulum than others, and this can hinder the ability of the foreskin to retract fully. The frenulum can be lengthened by a very minor surgical procedure known as a frenuloplasty. Ask your GP about it when you go to see them. It might be something you want to consider in conjunction with the stretching exercises.

mmm, I would see a gp. If your foreskin is so tight it does not retract when entering a vagina, there might be a problem there. How do you put on a condom??

Hi all. i put the condom over the top, it always worked fine, i think i will take some advice on it and see a GP..... just in case

My foreskin never retracted, needed taken off it was "usable" but the stretching of the skin was causing a mass of scar tissue and occasional bleeding.

Wow, I thought I had it bad, I had NEVER been able to pull my foreskin back. From a young age maybe 8 or so, my dad used to tell me to make sure I pulled it back to wash underneath it and I never did.

It wasnt until I reached 17 that it started to budge, but even then it was like a burning sensation with the slightest movement. When I first had unprotected sex a few months before my 18th birthday, that was the first time it ever retracted completely, it was scary and painful. My foreskin was stuck retracted and I took it out of her, put it away and went out of the room to investigate, when I finally thought I had fixed it I found that the very tip of the foreskin had inverted and couldnt fix it. (Of course I did in the end)

Now (still having unprotected) I find that it is now easier, mainly because I use lube now but also I guess through practice. Saying that, the other day I tried to retract it and nearly died because it was so tight (think this is due to slight gains in girth)

I recommend maybe 3-4 times a week, lubing it up and slowly! attempting to retract it. If that doesnt work, definitely give your GP a visit

Thanks for all the usefull information guys. Are the problems here also known as Phimosis? When having intercourse i find that the foreskin of my penis becomes stretched and tender to touch. It can make sex painful and caused on occasion premature ejaculation. When flacid i can also appear red and sore. i've made an appointment with my GP but am nervous about the thought of surgery at my ages. Its sure to be embarassinging and painful. Sorry for thedetails but im not sure where else to go

I don't know the name of this condition, but it isn't an unknown one. It's a result of over-sensitivity to friction....... if we are referring to the same thing..... namely, after you have deflated, the foreskin is red and swollen and it stings (?) The solution might be to use extra lubricant. I started to get it with my last partner, but haven't bonked since, so haven't discovered a sure-fire cure. (Any women, out there, available..... in the interests of medical science? !! )

Hi James

I'm the same (I think), its never caused my any trouble.

Well, the foreskin pulls back a bit, but not very far, and I get the impression its supposed to go back further

On was a challenge to say the least.

Theres a picture on the wikipedia foreskin page, mine does not do that.

Thanks guys. Looks like a trip to the GPs it is. It seems a cream and stretching exercises are the way forward. Someone selfishly relieved to know im not alone.

Statisticaly speaking, a Doctors first solution to any problem is amputation.

would certainly help me to make better decisions

Ha! My doctor said there are usually three solutions, two of which are surgical, only one is the removal of the skin, he then took one look and was like "Nope, that's coming off".

Sad times.

if you dont mind me asking, did you notice a significant change to the shape? Was it worth it in the end?

Go to the doctor, my husband had it and it was sorted out quickly. It has taken 3 months to get to the point where he thinks it is better! But he is very happy with the results.

Hi James

If your doctor suggested circumcision, I wouldn't go for it. You really need an operation, or exercise regime, to loosen it (if anything). The foreskin, when it retracts, is a useful bit of kit when it comes to sex.

As you have probably spotted in videos, manual/oral stimulus normally involves the foreskin being run right up and down, over the glans. The sensation is extra special. Also, bonking with the foreskin retracted gives a lot more sensation than with it covering over the glans. With a loose foreskin, it tends to stay retracted during intercourse, but it's interesting to compare the loss of sensation if you fit a condom with the foreskin covering the glans, as opposed to fitting one with the foreskin retracted. The other thing is that during intercourse, the retracted foreskin forms a ring that runs along the vaginal passage, probably giving a little more sensation for the woman.

You love your mother, I'm sure. But you might have to blame her for your foreskin failing to fully retract. She should have been gently easing it back, by increments, when you took baths as a baby/toddler.

However, despite what I've written, if you have a good sex-life with your foreskin as it is, then you've really got nothing to worry about. The upside is that you last a bit longer than you otherwise might if your foreskin retracted!
