I've got this half-baked idea in my brain that I thought i'd open up to y'all to see if we can turn it in to something worth exploring.
It involves the activity of geocaching - a hobby that has evolved through the Internet that has people hiding a 'cache' (usually a waterproof container with a logbook and trinkets inside) and then posting clues and coordinates online for people with gps or satnav to then attempt to locate. When they manage to, they sign the log take the trinket, put a new one in and record their findings online.
What I've been pondering is whether we could/should start an LH forum cache and would any of you be interested in looking for it?
I see two ways we could do it - either those interested each hide a cache or we could set up a travelling cache ie. I start one, someone finds it, adds to/changes it and rehides it in a new location and so on.
Haven't really decided what could be cached - like I said, it's only half an idea so, thoughts please!
i like the idea of this,you can go out to the woods or what ever and have great fun looking and finding the cache.
perhaps it could contain freebie toys or such like from lovehoney [maybe they could sponsor the idea] and you could take it away or have some outdoor fun and review it .you can have different cities,county's,etc doing there own drops with maybe anywhere in the UK for traveling workers or holidaying couples.
you can leave the review on the forum and in the comments book left behind as well as leaving something behind for the next person [all new and unused of course].so lets see who else likes this idea and maybe put it into practice.
now all i need to do is learn how to-do geocaching properly to have a great day out [or may be a dirty weekend away].

however, I don't own a GPS, have a shit sense of direction, and live in another country so I shall not be able to participate!!

It needn't be as complicted as it sounds - perhaps a treasure hunt would be a better description. Its not neccessary to have sat-nav or gps. The 'cache' creator could use google maps to pin-point a start point (eg car park) posting a link in the forum along with a treasure map. This could be in the form of a guided walk, set of clues to be solved or an actual sketch map if you like.

I agree in part with this but its more about the thrill of the hunt than the material value of the prize - especially if its a toy to be put to good use External Media If it's too far away, just sit and wait for a 'cache' to start in your area - or start one yourself to encourage your local OA's to get involved!
OK, time for a technology failure. I found you (Sexychic) on the map earlier but now I can't. I'm doing something wrong and can't work out what.
There's only one way to see if this idea will take off and that is for me to bury a cache - i'll give it some thought and i'll post back here if and when I manage it.

Hmm Im not so sure about this as we are all very far apart...how would it work? Plus, not too sure I want to put my postcode in the map as everyone will know where I live....
