I'm up bright and early to fill you in on (some of) the details, but disclaimer: this is a non-techy person trying to explain something technical.
In short: Chat has gone for now, everything else should be working as normal. If it isn't, it's a bug.
In long:
Lovehoney has just had a rather major techical overhaul. The tech wizards have been coding their fingers to the bone for months to create a Lovehoney that... well, to the rest of us looks almost exactly the same.
The code change has been in the offing for a while but I wasn't sure exactly what day it was going to happen so I couldn't pre-warn you. Any tech changes have to be uploaded on a Saturday, which is a quiet shopping day for online business - but unfortunately an active day for the social side of things. The Doc was around yesterday to ensure people could still shop, and has seen that there are problems with the forum and review side of things - I would imagine the majority of fixes will come next week when the full tech team are all back in.
Separately, since the Lovehoney Forum plugged in a chat function a few years ago, it's been full of issues and generally a pain for everyone who uses it. Funnily enough, it was also pretty nasty from a technical point of view as well. For that reason, it was not allowed to come in to the new code and pollute it with its grimy gremlins. We realise not having chat will be an inconvenience to a large number of you, but I have been promised by the tech team that there will (their emphasis) be something much better to replace it.
We always knew that some glitches would work their way through in the giant code overhaul. You can email alice@lovehoney.co.uk with BUG in the subject line if you want to report one and I can add it to tech's fix list. Please add details of your browser and the device you are using.
I never used the chat so I'm glad it's gone really.. Never knew how to work the dreaded thing. If they ever make a new one- I'd like there to be a disable feature.
On a bright note- love the little sparkles to the Lovehoney title/heading. Also, the reviews look much more compact and neater.
There are still some glitches like being unable to edit and some symbols around in the forums though..
hahaha ive never met anyone who can program without sytanx errors cause everone makes stupid attributes like Public string Name = name; so ur always getting them mixed up :P
Glad to see the important details have been adressed !!
Oh dear - Smilie alignment is still a bit off....
Edit is only sort of working..... very odd....??? Very, very odd. I am using IE9.
I can edit - but struggle to save. Something still very wrong..... Update post doesn't work - gets stuck. But clicking Post Reply will unstick it. Not good.
As a former software test analyst (the bane of developers, noone likes being told their baby is ugly), sometimes better to rip it up and start again than constantly chasing bugs. I will look forward to the new version and remember, fast, reliable, cheap; you will only be able to have two!
will there be any relevence to adding new friends if the only way to chat to them is in the forum, because to me if that is the case you no longer need to add friends.
