I would like a quick advice - I am new to lubricants (I am luckily naturally well lubricated so there was no need before) but I am buying this blowjob stroker for my fiancé as a small Christmas present.
When reading through the description of it, it says that one of the key features are “Just add water-based lubricant for super slippery sensations”. However, when reading the Silicone Lube FAQ, it says that “it’s perfect for your glass or plastic toys”. I know that silicone toys don’t go well with silicone based lubricants but this is soft plastic - is it still a nope-nope? I want to make sure that our fun with it will last as long as possible.
The science of lube and sex toys is part alchemy, so it’s not that easy to navigate.
I think it’s all down to the recipe of the plastic/silicone used for the toy, and the specifics are often a trade secret. Sometimes you’ll find that the advice errs on the side of caution, and actually the silicone lube and toy would be fine, but it’s best to be prudent. I’ve done a silicone lube test on a couple of our silicone toys and they were fine. If you ever do want to try it, a small patch test on an unimportant bit can tell you a lot without risking too much.
I think I will follow your advice and conduct an experiment on the toy before the heat of the moment as we only have silicone based at home and I want to find out if I need to invest in another bottle before Christmas rolls around Just out of curiosity - how do you know if it damages the toy? Or is it something that you know when you see it?
I’d definitely invest in some water-based lube. It’s suitable for all toy types, and if it gets a bit sticky you can ‘refresh’ it with a sprinkle of water (or spit ).
Silicone can melt soft plastics. I love linking to this blog.
I still have so much yet to learn But I’m up for the challenge. I waited for about 8 minutes and I see/smell no change (and while I was there, I’ve done the same test on my silicone finger vibrator - and that looks fine as well), so it should be alright! Yeah, at one point we will but I’ll first see how much we’ll be using this (and other) toys as 100 ml seems like a lot to go through. Thank you again for your help!
@Moki if silicone lube is your go-to and you just need a water based one for some toys, you don’t need to buy 100mls. Brands like Sliquid (my favourite) come in different sizes or in mix and match sachets.
YES do a 50ml tube of organic water-based lube here
A single try out my well be misleading. Silicone lube doesn’t affect soft plastic instantly. It’s a gradual deterioration over time. Honestly I would play safe and buy some water based lube for use with silicone and soft plastic toys. We use Lovehoney Discover for everything.
I’m pretty sure soft plastics are more susceptible to silicone lube damage than silicone toys are. I personally would only use water-based lube for soft plastics. The head master is a slightly different material to Fleshlights, but I still think it’ll degrade it over time.
When I did my silicone test on silicone toys it was over an extended period (finishing with a 24hour test).
In fact, I’ll have a root around and see if I can dig out a similar stroker to douse in some silicone and see what happens.
My test was roughly 1 month (ish?), but applying it for a set amount of time every day. Started with 30 minute exposure, than an hour, than 24 hours to finish.
But… Now we can upload photos, so I’ve been considering re-doing it with pictures. If you have any suggestions to improve the test I’m open to them.
I’m a retired Chemistry teacher. Don’t get me started on control of variables during testing.
It sounds as if you’ve been pretty thorough already so go with it.
We have occasionally used silicone lube with silicone and soft plastic toys but I always clean them very thoroughly afterwards and so far they’re OK. Maybe that’s the answer?
Thank you for everyone’s answers - I think I will go with this option for now and have a look around water based lubes. I am a neuroscientist, so I am very in favour of experimenting too
