So, I had my hair done today and I really don’t like it. It’s supposed to be lightened, gradually, from my natural colour at the top with hightlights and then lighter at the bottom so that I can add a fun colour semi permanent dye. I’ve had it done before and loved it but this time it’s way too yellow, isn’t taking the coloured dye that i wanted and just looks streaky. Any idea how I can either get the yellow out or get my old hair back?

@Kitty-Cat01 yellow (pale) or orange (brassy)
Yellow = purple shampoo
Orange = blue shampoo

I used to use the Wella Colour Fresh range to tone the yellow out of my hair

Thanks @Lovehoney_Brenna @The_Little_Ladybird Do you think I could use the purple shampoo to lighten it and then use the fun colour afterwards? I was looking to go pink!

You could always cut most of it off…
@Kitty-Cat01 it won’t lighten but would “mask” or tone the yellow.
If you want to restore it a darker shade, you maybe better using an ash toned semi x

The internet seems to suggest toning it first as pink is part of the red family, so adding it to yellow toned hair may create an orange tone.

Ok, I think i might just have to go back to a different hair salon. I know nothing about hair!
@Kitty-Cat01 if you aren’t happy call the hairdressers that did it , they should sort it…

I used the Total Bleach Kit by Bleach London when I dyed my hair, if you’re brave you could try it yourself . I had to do it twice to get the horrific yellow out of it, you would probably only need to do it once.
They should’ve put a toner in it at the salon mind.

I think there’s some sort of shampoo and conditioner you can buy what tones down the yellow ness
As when I had a hair dye disaster and ended up with orange, my friend got me something from Superdrug’s that took the copper ginge out or it lol

Thanks, I think I’ve got it sorted, it’s not perfect but at least tolerable now! It did involve another trip to a hair salon but it was worth it!
