My wife and I are considering getting a hot tub for our back garden, but honestly not idea where to start in terms of models/type. We would obviously like one with suitably arranged powerful jets for fun, but also to just enjoy and relax.
Anyone got any recommendations on where to start?

Are you looking for a permanent hard shell hot tube or an inflatable one? Also you need to be aware for permanent ones not all are 13 amp plug and play, some are of a higher amperage and need a specific supply wiring in.
We have an inflatable one, and often have alfresco fun in it as it isn’t overlooked. We have also used it whilst naked.
Is get it in a wooden gazebo so when it’s bouncing with rain you can still play.
Id go for a hard shell.one if ypu can afford it
Think the main part to be aware of with hot tubs is how much the filters and stuff costs to keep them running clean… my godmum really wanted one and when she bought an inflatable type hot tub she then kinda lost the shine for it as all the extra stuff she had to keep buying to maintain it was quite expensive and realised she hardly used it unlike if she was to go to a spa.

I’ll add my two cents as we are very long time hot tub owners. Most people either like them or they don’t, we like ours a lot. We use it year around here in the US and are in a climate where we get all fours seasons. We start almost everyday we’re home with coffee in the morning to start our day, helps wake us up. A lot of the time we’ll end our day with a drink and to relax/unwind before bed. It’s used randomly at times during the day if one of us is sore or sick.
I’d recommend going to a retailer and look at various models, what size, how many jets, what is your budget etc. Remember if it says it seats 8, that’s probably like 4 seated comfortably. Ours is a hard side with a hard top to close when not in use. Ours was 220v so had to have separate devoted breaker and box for it, just hire an electrician and there will be no worries.
Yes there is some up keep, but it’s not hard keeping the water balanced to perfection, and filters only need changing about twice a year, and we use ours daily.
We are always, always naked in ours as it’s private, unless there is company over. Haven’t been able to have a naked adult party in it yet. 
We do have sex in it fairly often as well and it’s always amazing. Like you mention, powerful jets are a must as the wife can use them to get off on, super hot to watch this. Make sure there are calf muscle jets, those work best for private orgasms. Wife has used back jets occasionally on herself which requires her to expose herself up out of the water, also super hot!!!
Not sure what I’ve missed, but good luck with the purchase and like I’ve said, we will never live anywhere again that we won’t have a hot tub in our backyard. I’ve also moved several hot tubs but is not easy, better to have a professional company move it for you. Hope this all helps.

Hi there @AutoScot just like xman69 we are long term hot-tub fans (but have only just ordered our own for delivery in November, can’t wait !)
We began using them at Naturist spas years ago and got hooked very quickly. Always shower beforehand, generally the rule at communal ones anyway as they will stay clean longer and the lack of detergents from swimwear helps too.
Even in general hotels with such facilities they are usually private/dark enough to just slip off your costume behind your towel and get in discreetly 
There are different types of course, the inflatable ones are good value, often around £300 but not sure of the longevity. The hard shell ones are idea for high usage, but might be overkill for some people, starting at about £3000.
We have gone for the third/middle option, a foam type rigid semi-permanent type, about £1500. Listed as a six person, but I know it will be ‘cosy’ even for four, but will only be very occasionally more than us in it.
I think it is about 850L capacity with a 2.1kw heater, so will be fine on a 13a plug, but will get a dedicated feed when we decide exactly where it is going. We will try it in our conservatory in the winter and then next spring in our greenhouse, maybe even make a gazebo for it, who knows ?
We fill it with hot water from the house and within an hour it’s good to go all year round
