How do I go about "taking" bigger Butt Plugs?

I have started using Butt Plugs recently and bluntly put, I love it and I want to try something much, much bigger.

Some of the bigger plugs look amazing, and I kinda want to work towards using something like the Colt XL or one of the inflatable XL plugs.

The problem is, I'm stuck at medium. The biggest I've been able to take is Doc Johnson's "Red Boy" Medium Butt Plug.

It hurts a little bit when I first get it in, even with warming up. After a while it feels great but what should I buy next to keep moving up?

Ok, so you want to go bigger. First off, your anal sphincters don’t change physically as you train for bigger objects, the muscles don’t actually stretch out, your just training your brain to reclassify the signals from something painful to something else. The easiest way to do this is to repeatedly relax and contract the muscle using a beaded dildo or plug. By basically working the wide point in and out you can train yourself to relax those muscles and take larger objects. To consciously relax you need to sort of bear down, pushing like you trying to go to the toilet, with practice it gets easier to control and doesn’t feel like trying to poo. I know people say if it hurts you should stop but going to larger anal toys does tend to hurt a bit when you first transition to the next size up. I’m not talking about extreme pain, but it’s not unusual for a little. Until you get to pretty large stuff, over 8 inch circumference, don’t worry too much, your not going to break anything. Best toy on the site for you right now is the B-7 buttplug (not to be mistaken with the dildo). That will open plenty of doors, just don’t expect to be able to take it all straight away, work on the first bump and working that in and out until you can take the second. It’s a fairly deep plug also so getting that last bump in is a little work the first time. Stretching is something best done solo in my experience, it’s much easier for you to control something then it is for someone else.

Some excellent points put forward by KingGrthy above, but one thing is a Definitely must is PLENTY.of a GOOD LUBE.

Yes, plenty of lube, and get some good lube and a lube launcher or three.

You mentioned only worry after anything over 8 inches. ...What should I be worrying about, after 8 inches?

I'm currently looking at the Colt XL at 9.5 inches (and I also found an inflatable one that I'd eventually like to try, that goes up to 20 inches!)

Also... How long does gaping last and at what circumfrance would I begin experiencing it? It's something I'd like to experience but I'm worried it wouldn't go back to normal!

Thanks for the tips so far guys, keep 'em coming! (Sorry if I seem a bit giddy, I'm new to this!)

I've had loads of butt plugs over time so rather than buying many "slightly bigger" ones over a long time like I did maybe try this, as it goes from smal(ish) to really quite large and allows you to progress gently? https://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=17540 This is my "daily choice" having thrown away all of the previous ones https://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=17541

When you start getting to large girth items you need ot be careful because, while the muscle can dilate plenty more, the tissue inside needs to be gently stretched over time to avoid tearing.

9.5 inches is really big and will take considerable time to work up to if your just starting out. Also, inflatable plugs and circumfrence isnt the same as normal plugs and dildos. While they can inflate very large, they are balloons and as such are quite squishy. You may only be able to take 8-9 inches for example and insert an inflatable that can blow up to 20 but inside you it wont be any larger than the 8-9. Inflatables just create this really intense sensation of fullness in your rectum. Personally I dont care for it.

Quiet ones are worse! wrote:

I have the intimidator and I wouldnt reccomend it. Sure it goes up to something like 11 inches but to get there its very long and not very flexible. Also because it is tapered so much, when its deep inside it doesnt really fill you up so to speak, only the part at your external sphincter is really large. Its an odd toy and while I do use it occasionally its definately not a favorite.

Thanks for the advice, honestly I'm glad because I was a bit nervous of doing something wrong and hurting myself. I'm currently using the following and it's my largest plug: https://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=16748 I'm currently looking at the following plug: https://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=7323 Would this be a safe step up? I really, really like the full sensation so it sounds like something inflatable is what I'm after!

Sorry about the formatting. Sometimes it goes a bit odd. (and typing the HTML tags doesn't always fix it!)

No that wont be too much of a step up. While it says 12 inch circumfrence, it looks like its about 5.5 and then inflates up to 12, but like I said, its not the same as being able to take a 12 inch circ dildo.

Just dont rush things and you wont hurt yourself. And while big is nice, I still get a lot of use out of some of my smaller toys so dont feel like you always have to go bigger to get that fix.

I agree you don't always have to go big I often enjoy my small plugs, also nice to wear outside the house as most of my bigger plugs try to eject themselves 😂

Try hollow plugs too. They can be tricky to get in but because the neck is wider they help you to learn to relax.

It's been said a few times here already, in really good posts... but relax, take your time, lube. And lube. Plenty of good lube. Lube? Lube :)

Also, if you hit a wall, a problem or have a painful or scary session then try to relax, reset, don't stress it. All easy to say, but worth keeing in mind.

I've hit some walls and had a few rough sessions: a bad reaction to latex (turns out I'm allergic), have a weird reaction to some lube ingredients and don't get on with PVC and rubber toys. But I've progressed over time, I reckon so anyway.

When you hit a snag, treat it like anything else - just take a breath, take a break, talk to people here, have a read online, maybe even go see your GP (if you can!). Try not read too much online. People here are incredibly helpful and talk sense - but the wider net can be full of lunatics with odd agendas.

It might take ages to get anywhere. But it ain't no race! :) And trying to rush it could be a painful nightmare, that might set you back a bit.

Basically, have fun... an adventure.

This post was supposed to be 2 lines max! Sorry about that. Cheers xx

We are training my husband's ass to take bigger and bigger toys (mostly for pegging purposes, but pkugs too).

For us, small increments in crcumference are the key. We tried too big a jump and it ddin't work.

We start with a smaller toy he can take easily, then switch to the larger one. We've found the best tactic is to not proceed to a new larger size until he can totally and easily take the current toy he is on.

The toy he can take easily is this (Circumference: 6.25 inches): https://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=10747

So we've started on an extra girthy one (Circumference: 6.5 inches): https://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=30881

Also, we take a break from training him occasionally. We think it's good for his hole, so we take a few months off. We've recently started up again, so build up slowly again.

Using these tactics, we've got from a finger up to a 6.25 inch cirumference taken very comfortably. We have a bit to go yet, as I know he has his eyes on this monster: https://www.lovehoney.co.uk/product.cfm?p=39319

Makes my eyes water even thinking about it!

@KinkyMira been looking for advice on this, maybe trying to go too big too soon so i need to slow down a bit. Don’t think set that one as my goal though :grimacing:

Maybe try an inflatable plug as then you can slowly increase the size without any radical change

Oh @Scotsguylcy, progress has been painfully slow at times. We tried to jump up an inch of circumference, and he couldn’t take it. We had to go half an inch at a time. But we’ve been doing training for something like six years and the size of toy he can now take is eye watering. Slow with small increments and you’ll get there.

@KinkyMira Tried some slim anal toys and ok, but one below too much yet so need to go less than 5" circumference maybe

Sounds like it. A half inch increase in circumference is actually quite a lot bigger dildo. Surprised us.
