Lube advice

Hi, my wife has very sensitive skin. We’ve struggled to find a lube that doesn’t leave her feeling uncomfortable after play time. Can anyone recommend a product that will be kind to her?

As a genuine suggestion (though it may sound sarcastic) I’ve read and heard that coconut oil is actually pretty great. Plus it doesn’t taste like lube if you want to do some oral after applying it.
I’ve not tried it myself though.

Reply likely seems odd coming from a male but if you have already tried water, silicon, & oil based sensual products without luck I would suggest trying the drugstore (chemist?) next. There are medically developed products specifically designed for vaginal lubrication that are balanced for body pH levels. Non-sented, non-flavoured, & non-toxic (think oral for the last one).

Yes OB is great

Welcome.

With lube, it can be a process of elimination to try and find out if there is a specific ingredient that’s causing it or a type of lube in general. And also not to get disheartened if it takes a few tries. Also, just to note due to forum rules we can only recommend lubes if Lovehoney sells them so if I’m a bit vague, that’s why.

As @Gareth said, coconut oil can work well and does for many, but isn’t perfect as it can cause overcorrect the vaginas natural balance. It does also linger inside longer so can cause issues (all oils have this in common) and is not compatible with most condoms.

More natural lubes like Yes or Sliquid can often help those with sensitivity, and so worth a look. Avoid ones with flavourings or active ingredients (warming/tingling etc).

Silicone lubes are hypoallergenic and if you pick one with the fewest ingredients you can find (some literally have 2), then that is unlikely to cause irritation but it does come at the cost of not being compatible with all toys and (like oil) silicone lube can linger inside and harbour bacteria (although not everyone finds this a problem).

Otherwise, make sure your lube is in date, that you are using enough (and reapplying as needed), not going too hard/fast too soon and everything going inside her is properly clean

Do you mean something that is made for female dryness primarily? I hadnt thought of that, im allergic to every lube ive used, i end up with a UTI.

I second this. Someone suggested olive oil to us once but we found it has a bitter taste so swapped to coconut oil. It’s economical for the size of the jar too!

I used to with the flavoured ones but I seem to be okay with the “basic” ones - so far!

Exactly. I believe it’s usually marketed as a “personal lubricate and/or moisturizer”.

We use plain old KY. It’s cheap and works fine for anal. Vaginal sex never requires lube since she is so wet and I’m intact
