Lube options for sensory issues

So… . Lube… I have sensitive skin and usually use sliquid natural gel. However I really don’t like the texture, I have an aversion to slimy, wet and gloopy textures but need to use something otherwise sex is uncomfortable or impossible. I have some sensory issues I think - there are certain materials/ textures that I just can’t touch. Lube isn’t that bad, it’s just a bit off putting and I find that the sensation of applying lube reduces my arousal significantly and I have to try to ignore it as much as possible. I’d really like to find something less slimy that is thick enough to be effective.

I have tried a silicone lube which I really like because it feels more like a massage oil. However, it’s just too thin. It’s for fingering (working towards fisting although a long way off) and sex. We use condoms so oil is not an option. Is there a thicker silicone lube?

Also, I know I can’t use a silicone lube with silicone toys but if I use a silicone lube one evening and then want to use a silicone toy the following evening is that going to cause any problems or will it all be gone by that point?

I’m pretty cautious these days about silicone lube on silicone, TPE, and soft plastic materials, with the exception of platinum cured silicone (which gets on ok with silicone lubes).

I’ve started using non-lubricated latex condoms over toys if I’m unsure if silicone lube will melt them.

Standard condoms are usually coated with a thin film of silicone lube inside & out, which is enough to alter more sensitive materials. I found this out the hard way: a prized Vixskin dildo went a bit sticky and gummy after wearing a condom for a while :face_vomiting:

I do think it is going to take a little trial and error to find a lube that is thick enough for you without being too thick.

Generally, I find most Sliquid lubes pretty thin so I don’t think swapping for one of their normal water based ones would work for you. However, they do have a hybrid one that might be ok. I don’t have experience with this one particularly but hybrids normally have a more creamy consistency that is thicker than normal water based lube but not gel like. The non organic version is available in the Sliquid sachet box if you just wanted to try a small sample before committing to a bottle.

Otherwise, there are powdered lubes that you mix with water so you can create whatever consistency you like. I wouldn’t like to comment on what they are like for sensitive skin though so you might want to do a bit of research into them (there are others available, just not from LH).

In terms of silicone lubes, whether it will affect silicone toys the next day is a tricky one. It is definitely possible for there still to be remnants of the lube inside you, whether it is enough to damage the toy will depend on how much is still in there, the lube itself (the different types of silicone used and the percentage of them is important) and the toy (whether it has a soft touch finish and the shore of the silicone are the most relevant factors)

@Knottydevil actually what the silicone is cured with isn’t particularly relevant. I have platinum cured toys that will definitely be damaged by silicone lube because of the shore.

Sliquids hybrid lube, sliquid silk, is a really nice lube. Its a bit tricky to get at the moment but you can get it if you look. (Its actually be fave lube for everything. So I may be a tad biased  )

Have you considered warming the lube before using it? Youll probably be less aware of it if its blood temp.
You can get warming lube dispensers but just immersing the bottle in warm water or something seems like a cheaper option

YES lubes are also nice and might be worth a try

If you’re worried about the potential to damage a silicone toy the day after using silicone lube then you could always pop a condom on it for protection, given you’re using them already.

I think I might just risk it with one of my older toys and see what happens. Or I might try a hybrid one instead.

Ive used sliquid silk on a just about all my silicone toys and ive never had an issue with it.

Does it still smell like aloe vera @Green_Eyed_Girl? I’m not a big fan of the smell to be honest. I’ll put up with it if it feels nice though

For some reason my phone tried to auto correct “aloe” to “alien”! Not sure what that says about me?! Might have spent too long on the monster lover thread!

It smells slightly different to the others to me. If indoubt its in the lube cube mixer box. You could always buy that and work your way through all the options

Hi @Calie
Thanks for picking this up. Did you mean softer shore toys are more likely to be damaged by silicone lubes. Any ideas why this would be?

Yes, softer shore silicone doesn’t bond quite as tightly as harder ones (although it’s still perfectly safe to use etc) so it is easier for silicone molecules to get in and affect the toy. Very soft toys can also sometimes sweat silicone oil at first so it’s a good idea to store them away from other silicone toys

Ok. Thanks @Calie. That’s useful to know. :+1:

We had a Vixen Mustang go really gummy on the outside a while back after a silicone lubed condom was left on it for a while. Thought it was a goner! It sounds like maybe silicone oil leached out of the Vixskin material. Vixen creations said it is safe to use again now it’s had a thorough clean though. We used good sex toy cleaner then boiled it and it’s all good now:sweat_smile:

The Silk hybrid one in the lube cube mixer box is from the Sliquid Naturals range, while Lovehoney only sell the Sliquid Organics range Silk hybrid lube in bottles. Both lubes are called Silk. Both are from Sliquid, but they’re totally different lubes! :man_shrugging:t2:

I personally prefer the Naturals one. It’s a stunning lube.
I’m really going off aloe in lubricants because of the way it often goes tacky or gummy as it dries. It feels great at first, but later on it feels awful sticky and weird to me.

Yeah, the silk is a great lube. I like both versions of it to be honest. Its tricky to buy in the uk at the moment, finding somewhere that sells it (and has it in stock) is not the easiest right now.
It is out there though so try googling it, see what come up.

The maker lists all the ingredients if your ever unsure whats in them and need to check.
