So for the last few years i have had a repeat prescription for antibiotics due to recurrent UTI’s.
Having monitored it for the past year or so, i think i have pinpointed the cause to all but 1 of them to masturbation. I am very clean due to OCD, i wee and shower, use antibacterial wash to clean my toys before immediate use and afterwards, and only masturbate in the shower with running water over me to keep the area clean as i go, and i wash afterwards also. I find it very difficult to wee afterwards as i usually only go to the toilet once or twice a day due to medications etc, so theres a thimbleful at most in my bladder when i’m finished, and this therefore doesn’t seem to be helpful.
There is at least a 50% incidence rate that within 24-48 hours i develop a UTI. I have tried cranberry juice, D-mannose etc, they also do not seem to make a difference.
This is massively affecting me as i get “frustrated” just like everyone else, but am scared to satisfy this frustration incase i’m going to get an infection, and don’t like using anti biotics as i don’t want to become resistant to them etc. Getting a doctors appointment is proving quite fruitless as it’s not an emergency, was wondering if anyone on here has had similar and theres anything OTC i can use to help that doesn’t need a prescription?
Possibly the antibac wash you’re using? If you wash your toys after use and store them properly then theres really no need to wash them before use.
Or it’s what you’re using to wash yourself, it should just be water, no soap inside, assuming you’re a vulva owner.
Do you use any lube? Could be that.
If you can’t pee, I assume you can’t squirt either. That would’ve at least helped to clear your urethra.
Edited for spelling.
Can you force yourself to drink water before, to make sure you can pee after?
My wife is very prone to cystitis, and going to the toilets for a wee after sex is now built in. She just has to.
Peeing after defo the key so try up your fluids. I struggle to pee immediately after as my muscles get ‘confused’. I have found some high dose cranberry capsules which work a treat 60000mg dose plus high dose vit c 1000mg and ibuprofen to reduce inflammation. I also find an antihistamine helps with the inflammatory response and cystitis symptoms.
Cut out sugar and reduce carbs too as the bacteria looooove the sugar, unfortunately cranberry juice itself tends to be high sugar so counter productive.
Don’t use anything except water to cleanse your lady garden and wear non sweaty natural fabrics to reduce heat.
I very much agree with @JoCat. If you are using lube, it could be the ingredients not agreeing with you or if could be the antibacterial cleaner staying on your toy and upsetting your system.
Otherwise, what materials are the toys you are using. Some materials can be porous and can hang on to bacteria (even after being cleaned). Silicone and hard materials like abs plastic, glass, metal etc will be fine though.

I think all of these are great suggestions the only other thing I could think is if you’re using antibacterial soap beforehand then that might get inside and what people often forget is that your body also needs the good bacteria and antibacterial products get rid of both the good and the bad.
Maybe if you are a very clean person then your body hasn’t built up as much immune response because it hasn’t been exposed to as much bacteria?
I could be talking nonsense so take it with a grain of salt but that’s the only thing I could think to add to the great advice above.
Hope you manage to sort it out it sounds like a real nuisance for you ![]()
Coukd be the soap? My wife uses femfresh balanced pH level and gentle on her lady parts…
Lots of excellent suggestions so far so I won’t repeat what’s already been said.
I just wanted to check that the doctor actually checked that you had a UTI rather than just prescribing antibiotics based on your symptoms?
I used to have what I thought were recurring UTIs (I’d had them in the past so my doctor assumed that’s what it was but didn’t check). After about a year, I saw a gynaecologist who said that I have a nerve problem caused by my pelvic floor muscles being too tight and pressing on the nerve. This also got worse after orgasming and meant I was unable to wee after masturbation. If you haven’t been properly tested, please get yourself checked over, I know it’s hard to get an appointment but it’ll be worth it once you get the right treatment. I’m not saying that you have what I had, just that it could be something else entirely that you hadn’t considered. I’m now much better after doing some physio and glad I got checked out.
Sometimes if your overly washing yourself down there it can get rid of all the hood bacteria that actually helps stop people getting UTI infections ![]()
Especially if using things like soaps and antibacterial washes…
With the toys as long as you’ve given them a good wash under the tap then you should be ok ![]()
Great advice and that accidental typo in your message is perfect! From now on the good bacteria down there will be know as “Hood” bacteria ![]()

All good in da hood as they say in the ghetto ![]()
I’m sorry to hear this as it must be very distressing for you.
I maybe wrong but is there a point of over cleaning yourself could be part of the problem?? As maybe washing away good bacteria from the area with the anti bac soap therefore making yourself more prone to uti.
Just a suggestion not sure if it helps see what others say
Good luck
