Menopause age 50+? think again

Hiya there folks.

Just a heads up. Over the last 18 months I’ve had a lot of heartache and stress to put it mildly. (Hence why I’ve not been as active on the forum)

I hadn’t had a period in years. I’m in the mid to late 50’s age bracket but the stress made my periods return.

I was ovulating again which was confirmed by scans and tests. I was having regular periods once again. They said it can happen obviously but it doesn’t very often. Anyone out there just be aware. It’s all I needed on top of everything else.

Has anyone else experienced this?

This has made me wonder if it’s some kind of primordial, dormant survival mode that your body has kicked in due to the extreme stress of the last 18 months releasing stress hormones? Survival of the species thing? Sending you love and hugs and hoping you’re feeling better soon. :people_hugging:

@CurvyJilly I havent experienced the exact same thing but stress can cause hormonal upsets.

When I was in my late 40’s I was diagnosed with fibroids and within a year one of them grew very large. This very rapid growth was put down to a sudden hormonal surge, like my body was having one last big hurrah before menopause put the kibosh on my fertility once and for all. I do remember a couple of nurses at the hospital saying they’d seen women who’s periods had kicked off again when they hit 50.

Sorry to hear you’ve been having a rough time.

It did happen to me but did not last long. Mine was caused through stress when we were trying to move about 10 years ago. I was 57. I had not had a period for over two years before and then suddenly i had one. Wasnt as much as a normal period and lasted about four days. Had another the following month but we then got our moving date agreed and the stress went and that was the last period i had and they never returned.

I had 5 months of them and they were getting heavier…I got the stomach cramps…cravings and the lower back pain too. They were bang on every 28 days too…very odd.

Then they just stopped…had all the tests done though as a precautionary measure.

Fingers crossed I’m done with them AGAIN.
