names that annoy you

Haha! Also from Yorkshire, and I agree completely. It's just not right ;)

I have friends in Leeds, the first time they said it I thought they'd had one of those embarassing brain slips (like someone calling their Teacher 'Mum' at school), but nope, turns out it's a Leeds thing...

Hi all, interesting subject, i think it is all down to who says it to you no matter what the term. And also i think if somebody calls you by a name who is dear to you and you dont like it, its probably because you associate it with someone else, or a number of people that said it to you first and it has become annoying, or you though its kind of over stepping the mark maybe.

I do have to agree with the TOWIE comment aswell, a lot of words are pulled of the latest tv show and can get over used and very annoying and then the last thing you want is your OH saying it when you get home.

All in all though if its not a hateful name then surely it is just a term of endearment and you should just accept it for what it is, or you could buy a T shirt saying dont call me ......... lol

As for me its Kid, but this is it, i use that word all the time, its only when its said by someone a lot older than me that it seems to bother me. I usually reply "yes old person" lol.

I'm another one from God's own county. The only name that I hate is my first name in full.... there's a reason why I've shorterned it down :p

I call all guys "mate" and all lasses "love", but I guess that's because my 1st job was in a bingo hall and not a cat in hell's chance I could remember all their names. Guess it's just stuck.

I hate when people say 'listen love' so patroising

over usage of the word 'mate'

Stupid celebrities who call their kids Apple or Pikachu or something, it really ticks me off. Oh wait... Wrong 'names' haha

I don't like it when people call me duckie. Anything else I can take lol

My ex's mom used to call me bab. She'd overuse it. Doesn't help she's a total bitch whore though as not sure it annoys me when others say it.

All the towie slang annoys me and "para.com" etc also shagging everything? Is it a Twitter thing? And only a Twitter thing? Shagging is a typo for hashtagging teehee Xx

Hen. I cannot stand Hen.
I also take an instant dislike to strangers/people I barely know calling me babe (this especially), love, darling, baby, etc etc. I'm sure there are others. I really don't like pet names from people who I'm not close to.
Also if people shorten my name, makes my blood boil for some reason. The only person who's allowed to do it is my partner.
I like hun amongst friends/family. Weird to see it's so hated.

Most names dont annoy me (besides the full use of the word 'honey' which should always be 'hun' imo) but some names make me cringe and feel very uncomfortable. I do not like 'sweety' or 'sexy' or anything typically cliched. I call my bloke 'lover' sometimes but it is always said in a west country accent. Often the name 'hun' get used but not in the sickly sweet way, more referring to the nomadic group of people that helped the Roman empire to collapse- my bloke likes his history :)

amazing i started this and ive just come off the phone to a customer and he said ok i will look into it "my love" arghhh im not his love, i find it so rude not nice

where I live I am often called "love", "lover" or even "sweetheart" but then when I was a kid I got "sugar," "honey" or even "cabbage(no idea where that comes from)".

Ends up a bar maid saying to me "You and your wife take a seat and I will bring the menus, lover"

The only woman I spoke to when I worked in Saudi Arabia was in a London office, she called everyone "lover" with a lovely cockney accent. Certainly made things better in my world hearing it.

Babe pisses me off, though to be fair any word leveled in my direction that mis-genders me irritates the living crap out of me, as does the overuse of dude and yo. People calling me 'brother' is also irksome.

For me, it completely depends on the person. There are a small number of people who can call me anything they like. If a stranger uses the same terms, it annoys me a lot. I guess it is down to inappropriate familiarity.

Depends on the person but I generally find annoying when people call me hun or love.

Lately I have also developed an apathy towards the "Hello chaps"

Personally I hate guys calling me babe/babes, I tend to think it's cos they say the same shit to so many women it saves them having to remember names lol... Also cannot stand "sweetie" sounds so condescending makes my blood boil... Doesn't matter who says the words either, whether I know them well or not, and even if they're used in a 'nice' sentence, makes my skin crawl...

Can't think of any others right now but bet there is haha!

Having been called a white settler (Scotland) Island Ape (Generic name for Brits in Germany) Infidel (Arab reference to un Godly Europeans) Hena Gaijin (Japanese insult to foreigners) Perfide Albionoise French insult to perfidious Brits.........being called "lover" is a positive pleasure. The Germans here call me the equivilant of "lover" even when their husbands are there, its nice among people you know well but all these things I think are just a case of being over familiar too soon.

I recently walked in to a shop, the young male assistant called me dude, I am a 48 year old and did not appreciate it. So I turned round and walked out!

One lost sale!

I also don't like someone I don't no calling me mate.

Then I am a grumpy old man!

Love....

Especially when an elderly lady says it to me.......

I think it depends on who is saying the words.

Babes, sweetheart, darling etc are gross when said by some leering, drunk chav.

But when it's said by someone you love it's all okay :) x

Much agree!

I was once on a music course thing years ago, and we had to share dorms with other people. I was put in a double dorm with some girl who was nice enough, I suppose, but we were incredibally unalike! But she literally drove me up the wall because every sentance she said ended with the word "Chicken". Not "Chick", but "Chicken"!

"Alright Chicken?" "What are you doing today, Chicken?" "Coming to the gardens, Chicken?"

Even worse, was that she liked to talk. Even in the middle of the night...

"You awake, Chicken?" - I bloody well am now! Grrrr!

But that was the only word/name that really annoyed me.

I call most my female friends chicken?!!?? (or sometime chicken-wing) but it's done with love lol Don't like being called 'bruv' though :)
