been looking on the internet as ive been coping with a fissure for a year now.
i got it around september last year, pretty sure it was due to a really meaty and oily meal.
it was painful but bareable. i had months were it was okay after i sought out help. first i was given a stool softener and some steriod cream and i had a pain free two weeks, but it obviously hadnt healed cause a few day later it was back with avengance....
i then tried a high fibre diet eating two apples and two bananas religiously everyday... but if i missed this due to running out it would hurt and almost reverse any healing progress..
so last week i went to the docs, he gave me some retrogesic, and fybogel and im taken lactualose on my on accord. i was getting killer headaches with no/little pain relief from the fissure.
i went back again and told him this so he had another look, it appears i have two fissures, and a skin tag. which is basically where the fissure has healed out of the anus. when i spoke to him i did say i never get anypain at the front just the back and it all seems to stem from this skin tag like thing, cause you can tell the difference between the internal soreness and the external.....
so now im back on the first steroid cream i used, and sepocitries, which are bigger than bullets and not pleasant to put it and can fell abit sharp...
I really really really dont want surgery, id like a career in the armed forces and surgery will only hinder me.
ive posted here because f the huge active community so if anyone can help it would be greatly appeciated...... ive even thought about looking to see one of these chinese doctors to see if they can help
I'm afraid I'm not medically trained & I'm glad not to have experienced this personally so I cannot offer much by way of advice.
Have you thought of using a dab of water-based lube to help you insert the suppositories? It might help take the edge off. (I'm thinking it's probably best to avoid anything with silicone or oil as this might prevent you absorbing whatever drug is in them).
If you do resort to alternative medicine be sure to consult your doctor before taking anything as many herbs can seriously affect the way your body responds to medicines.
Sorry I can't offer any advice - hope you heal quickly without surgery
Yea I have/had a couple of rips... which is very annoying.. I found drinking orange juice or something acidic really helped. Obviously, drinking plenty of water too as well as eating plenty of fruit and veg. I'm not a big meat eater; I reduced my consumption of meat and only eat meat a couple times a week now mainly white meat not red.
Controvesially, having a small glass of wine/whisky as well really helped things along. Personally, I think drinking a little bit of alcohol now and then is good but I am not a medical expert so please take that opinion prudently. A lot of medication recommends not to drink alcohol whilst on the medication.
Frequent gentle exercise.
CCW's advice about using a little bit of lube for the suppositories is good too.
And patience.
Sorry I can't be much more help than that. I hope everything gets better.
I've never posted before on this forum, but thought I should as currently my girlfriend is going through all this.
I have to go back almost 2 years for the start of this drama in our lives as it has taken almost that long for doctors to realise that no cream and/or fibre or anyother ointment to have any effect on her fissure or skin tag.
It took the doctors at least a year to realise that my girlfriend would need surgery to try to alleviate the pain and to cure the problem. First thing is first the doctor WILL NOT remove the skin before the fissure has fully healed because as you've said it's the fissure healing, even when asked before the operation on the day we were told it would be remove and being put on the notes for the doctor. Guess what it wasn't removed! Long list of excuses and blah blah blah the fissure wouldn't heal if it was removed. So you first have to wait till the internal issues are solved.
To allow the fissue to heal they inject Botox into the rectum to allow the sphincter to relax and stop clencing constantly. Side effects are passing of wind uncontrollably and possibley uncontrolled bowel movements as the rectum is relaxed it can't stop this. However not everyone has this and my girlfriend didn't. BUT it can be injected in the wrong place so wouldn't have any effect on the healing process!
Ok so Christmas that year we go for a check up and the problem hasn't got any better or any worse. Right we'll try a bit more invassive and do surgery, fastforward to June this year and we go for surgery it's only a day care treatment so in and out as long as you have no incidents on the anesthetic. After have a minion come round and explain the procedure again and go through the notes we notice that skin tag removal isn't on the notes so it gets added and off he goes. Girlfriend goes off to theatre hour and a half later she comes back (a slight delay in the anesthetic room! it's not that long a procedure!) she comes back all groggy and feeling funny. (The procedure involves having the fissure cut on both sides to aggrivate it to heal more so and an even larger Botox injection in the "correct" place) GF goes to the toilet and has an inspection and notices the skin tag hasn't been removed when the minion comes around again we get the waffle that the skin wouldn't be removed as it would impede the healing of the fissure (would of been nice to of been told this by the original doctor we saw as we were told it would be removed during surgery noone seems to have a clue what they are going on about!) so a second procedure would be needed to remove the skin tag once the fissure has healed.
Now in September and my girlfriend is no better or worse on the healing side and we got a letter todya telling us that her 8 week check up (in December! Not 8 weeks more like 6 month check up!) has been cancelled and put back till April!
If I was you I would hassle the doctors to get yourself sorted because if it is anything like we have experienced they don't give a crap and 3 years down the line I doubt your fissure or skin tag will be any better! But I do hope it is as I kinda know how it feels the whole issue not nessercarily the fissure!lol
Beaware that the Op can cause serious sideffects like uncontollable wind and bowell movements but's that only in like 20% of cases. My girlfriend hasn't had any issues since the op except when getting changed after the op and squatting down to get her slippers and let's a big fart go! Not so funny in that situation!
Sorry for and spelling mistakes and waffling on a bit I'm on the whitewine and this whole issue is really irritating for us both!
If you want to know anymore let me know and I'll explain it better for you.
wow thats sounds horrific. i hope it all gets sorted in the end.
yh im trying my best to just "wish" them away and i guess hope that if i have the highest fibre diet on the planet that they might subside.
i have noticed over the last few days bleeding has stopped but i dont know if that is a good sign or whehter sometimes it just doesnt bleed.
yh the op does seem to carry very large risks and im young so i dont want the be incontenant at my age. i have heard of people having a laser treatment but im pretty sure thats private healthcare.
