For various reasons I'm considering asking an elective hysterectomy in a few years. But I'm a bit worried at how it might change sex for me? Like, I know a significant part of female orgasm involves contractions of the uterus, so do orgasms feel really different if you don't have a uterus?
(I only have one ovary, and hopefully plan to keep that so there should be little change in overall hormone levels.)
Ok...I can answer this one..... I had a full hysterectomy 1 and half years ago, but I kept my ovaries... At 43 now...and single after 20 years with my ex and 2kids... I thought I might be ending up having no orgasms, or libido afterward.
Tbh before my surgery to rectify prolapse, and waterworks issues, my sex drive was really non existent, but that could possibly be more to being quite depressed at the time. Especially with a posterior prolapse repair...I thought g spot orgasms would be totally off the cards......WRONG!!!!!.... I thought deep penetrative orgasms would be off the cards...WRONG!!!!. Thought I might end up with an early menupause.....W RONG!!.....I thought I would have no sex drive....definitely WRONG!!!
Basically ...for me it was the best thing I did.I have found my orgasms are still alive and kicking...the hit hard and fast...and I can usually get several in one session... It took a while to a) experiment b) have the guts to get funky with someone ,c) loose some inhibitions from my married years... And obviously to get beyond the recovery point...but in my case...it was seriously worth it.. But again..it may still be different for you...especially if you only have one ovary to start with. Obviously get a consultant to discuss it with you, and ensure you get the right surgery for your condition...but personally ...I have felt a new woman since the op...
Thanks so much for answering. My situation is that I am super-high risk for endometrial cancer, and I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, so a) I don't want/shouldn't have kids and b) I will probably end up with a prolapse at some point. I just got a 5-year IUD, but I've discussed with my husband that maybe when it's time to replace it, I should just see about getting a hysterectomy instead.
Obviously there's a lot to think about before I go ahead with it, but your reply was very encouraging and helpful. Thanks. :)
NP....tbh...once you hear the word hysterectomy.... Most ppl say pack up you sex life... Especially if you head into your 40s... And I am so glad for me it was totally opposite to my perception. So it can be a happy ending...a good consultant should discuss your plans for having kids / sex....and if kids is a complete off the cards, your next buggy is preserving what sex drive you currently have....I think there are several types of procedure s which can give you a better outcome. They might concider leaving cervix in...if risk of cancer, then willing out is the overriding matter... If removed..it shortens the vag abit...but...tbh I still get deep penetration orgasms...even without a cervix,... I think it is a bit like when you loose a sense...the others pick up the tab.... Take heart whatevercyou do...you will make the decision that is right for you.
I wholeheartedly agree with everything nm has said. I had a hysterectomy just under 18 months ago ( lost my cervix but kept ovaries ) and it's made no real difference to the strength of my orgasms although they do tend to end a little more quickly now but they're certainly a lot easier to come by these days! My libido is probably stronger than ever and I still haven't experienced any menopause symptoms despite being at the average age for it. Having a hysterectomy doesn't mean the end of orgasms or a sex life. When you have the cervix removed you only lose a tiny bit of vaginal length, not really noticeable at all. A good consultant will talk everything through and answer all your questions. Don't believe all the horror stories, there's no reason you can't have a fantastic sex life afterwards. It is a big decision but I wish you all the best whatever you decide x
Oh yeah! That is also a huge bonus! No Menzies.... No cramps and blinding headaches... And here's an extra bonus... All the money you will save on tampons/ pads... Chocolate and icecream to get through the mood swings...you can funnel directly into your kinky outfits, and " toys"ππ
