Hi all, looking for advice from those who own wartenberg pinwheels. Received the Master Series one today, but my wife who also wants to partake, ran it over her skin and within minutes was coming out in itchy red blotches. Her skin is sensitive to metals, hence only wears silver jewellery. Can only assume it's a reaction.
Has anyone had a similar experience? Had assumed the spikes would be stainless steel? Would stainless steel even make any difference?
Same here. Received ours yesterday, tried it out in the evening on my own arms and legs, had a dry skin / itchy sensation for up to an hour afterwards (I fell asleep by then). I do have fairly sensitive skin too. Thought it was all in my head, but if I'll feel the same reaction a second time, will return.
I do have this particular model and did a review on it some time ago. Both me and my Mrs have sensitive skin , but neither of us have experienced the reaction your Mrs is having. I presume you arn't adding any pressure on the instrument either , which could puncture the skin as the spikes are very sharp. I think the spikes are stainless steel but if you are allergic to certain metals , I am not sure if that would make a difference .

Hi Mysteron, yep certainly not puncturing the skin, nothing more than a cursory test, E45 cream cooled the itch, but my skin was absolutely fine (and I have quite dry sensitive skin myself).
Like era, will give another go, but would prefer a wheel we can both share.

If both of you can't use it then its not much fun . Then of course send it back which you can upto about a year. I am sure they will understand .
Oh dear.... Sounds like the metal may contain some nickel?? At Lovehoney we don't stock metals that contain nickel, so I've asked our buyer to remove the product from sale until we can find out exactly what the metal is from the manufacturer.
As soon as we hear back, we'll let you know.
In the mean time I'm really sorry to hear about any nasty skin reactions! I suffer from nickel allergies myself so understand how irritating this can be! Bepanthen and Sudocrem are your friends!

Thank you Jess, amazing as always! X
Out of interest have you tried a stainless steel pinwheel on your skin. I expect I'm being dense but presume s.steel will be fine for all skin types irrespective of allergies to nickel?
I also tried the Master Series one, and didn't get on with it. I didn't get a rash, but my skin did feel very itchy, so I stopped using it and sent it back. I do have the Bondage Boutique pinwheel which is excellent quality, nickel-free stainless steel, and hypoallergenic too :) xx
Wow, amazing action Jess! Looking forward to hear back on this, I have tried it again yesterday, arms and thighs, and had the same reaction. No rash, but about 20 minutes after I used it, skin got real itchy and dry.
I have a Fetish Fantasy metal pinwheel I get along with, Scorps, can't find it now on here, it's just that the Master Series in question is rather different, so was looking forward to what it can offer...

Stainless steel can contain various other additives apart from chrome - one of them is nickel: "There are different types of stainless steels: when https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickel is added, for instance, the austenite structure of iron is stabilized." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stainless_steel)
So it all depends on what sort of stainless steel is used...
Did I see there were some all plastic versions, maybe mistaken.
Yes! We stock this plastic pinwheel. It's better for beginners as it's not as prickly, but is a great replacement if you don't want metal. Plus it's tiiiiiny, which I really like as it fits in the small Lovehoney storage case without taking up lots of room / snagging on the inside netting.

^^ This.
This is one of the reasons (for example) they no longer use stainless steel in new piercings.
I would like to see us stocking a titanitum pinwheel in future, but I have no idea where we would source one. Something I will bring up in my next bondage category meeting :)
I expect titanium would seriously increase the price. Titanium implants are extortionate but you could get them in nice colours as titanium seems really good at accepting colour additives.
I'm not allowed to link to it, and the 'Pander to Me' thread is closed for a week, but I just found a titanium "luxury micro roller" on a NZ based toy website which has multiple rows like the master series! Is a titanium alloy rather than pure, and really reasonably priced.
I for one, would happily pay more for a titanium pinwheel, up to £30-35 :)
Ooh, intrigue! I'll be watching this space, as that wheel has been very high on my 'Saving Up For' list for some time.
Yes, it sounds as though it may have nickel in it or some other metal causing an allergic reaction. That's good to know, even if it's still a mystery, since my current partner is allergic to nickel and gold. There are indeed plenty of other multi-row models out there that LH could look at stocking in the future instead- which I'm sure Jess will take care of. It's one of the types I don't have in my collection yet.
I was going to link the plastic one and the Bondage Boutique one, but Jess and Scorps respectively beat me to it. The other two I have from LH are no longer sold here, including a brilliant little Bad Kitty one and a strikingly gorgeous rose gold finished one by Entice (it's the exact same model as the BB one above, just the colour is different).
I'm just about to submit my review of the Cat Claw, but the preview version is: It's fantastic! (Albeit presumably quite different from a multi-row wartenburg.)

I think it wouldn't be toooo bad... And as a person who suffers with allergies to nickel myself, I'd be happy to pay a little extra. Having said that, in an ideal world, it would be great to have just the spikes made from titanium, and the rest made from stainless steel with a silicone wrapped handle, for example. As you say though, titanium would be awesome for different colours as it reacts so well to Anodization.

 Thanks! I'll check it out!
I was playing with this little beauty today, and was just wondering if you would ever consider stocking this pinwheel again. It's one of my favourites, and has never caused a reaction to my skin :) xx

+1 to that. I had actually had my eye on that one when it was still available, in preference to the Master Series 9-row, just based on looks. But now there's another reason.
In case your interested, my review of the scratcher has recently gone live. (For some reason I can't get the direct link at the moment, but since it's the only review so far, it doesn't matter.)
