Poland

Has anyone been to Poland??

I've been invited to go for a hen do for a few days but my family are a little worried for my safety especially seen as I've never been abroad, never mind with quite a lot of people I don't know Xx

I like Poland, but it does depend on where you go, and who with...

I would give the advice I give my Sisters... Same as Night out on the Town... Stay with people you know, look after your drinks so they don't get spiked, keep in touch with your mates throughout the night, use a condom, and have lots of fun... No more dangerous than London, Leeds, Manchester, Paris or Spain... if you are careful

I have, a few times. Where exactly would you be going? I don't see why you should be any more concerned than you'd be anywhere else. It's very cheap, and as long as you look after yourself you'll be fine.

I'd be more concerned with going away with people you don't know well, rather than the destination itself. I went away with people I didn't know very well last year, and it was terrible. Being abroad meant many of the girls thought they could get away with pretty much anything. I've never been more uncomfortable in my entire life and hated most of the trip. Everyone got stupidly drunk and pretty much left me be, because I refused to grind up against creepy men who were giving out flowers. They would have left me at the club too, if it wasn't for good timing on my part. So just make sure you know the people you'd be going with won't do that to you.

I have, too, and I also live in Central Europe so I can imagine fairly well what it is like over here.

Frankly, the "danger level" really depends on the way you behave - sometimes, people from the UK or the USA think that for example Prague is a horrific place full of criminals and all sorts of horrid stuff but I have spent the better part of last eight years there and, apart from being hit by a careless driver (that can happen pretty much anywhere), I have never experienced anything that would make me overly worried. Poland is a fairly ok country as well, provided you do not stumble around drunk as a skunk in the dead of the night, searching for further booze or "dangerous, daring deeds" to impress Facebook friends. Warsaw or Krakow are not more dangerous than Glasgow, Newcastle or London, if you are responsible.

I would second the already mentioned idea that it is far more important who do you go with - people you don't know very well may (or may not, of course) be trouble-pickers who think that as a group they are unvulnerable and invincible and therefore allowed to do absolutely anything they fancy; from such behaviour, however, stems quite a potential for problems...

Hiya Kinky, I went with a group of friends for a wedding to Krakow. As it was a wedding we didnt go wild on the town but it was a pretty place, alcohol is cheap so I would echo what others have said. Depends who you go with and pretty much like any other busy city centre night. I also know quite a few guys who have went there for stag do's so just like at home, maybe give them a bit of a wide berth if they are too rowdy. Most Polish speak really good English and are used to tourists so language should be ok. I guess I cheated as we had at least 1 Polish person with us to help if we got stuck!

If you know the girls well and would be comfortable going to another British city with them, Id say it would be same. Have fun! x

It's the same no matter where you are. Poland is a beautiful country with friendly people. But, like anywhere else on a night out you can get yourself into trouble if you don't look after yourself. Your probably just a little over anxious because it's your first time abroad. You seem to have your head screwed on. You'll be fine, enjoy.
