@Alyssa646 please make sure you put a notice up if you put a camera up in case they do something and you have it otherwise you can not use the footage you can also get dummy cameras as a deterrent

That is truly terrible. I would definitely invest in the cameras.
I wasn’t aware of this. Definitely true if it’s a public area but covering just your own home and garden surely it’s fine? 
Don’t get me wrong, signs are probably a good thing anyway as an additional deterrent but surely any footage obtained of someone breaking the law in your private residence is admissible as evidence? You don’t have to have signs on your car to say you have a dash cam but that is certainly admissible evidence.

@Peitho no not in your car . At home they could claim that you have been spying on them ? I’d always use caution myself to be sure

Wise precaution and you could definitely be in trouble if your camera covers any of their property.

If you’re capturing images/video footage only within the boundary of your property (including garden) then it’s okay. It’s where anything outside of this (so a public footpath, neighbour garden etc) is then covered under data protection laws. So you would then have to put a sign up as well as abide by all the data protection legislation as you then effectively become a “data collector”. You have to be able to prove you have a justifiable reason for doing so (above the privacy of others), and ensure it’s held securely etc

Definitely put up a camera and keep an eye on your dogs. I know of cases of poisoned food being thrown over fences.

I never realised all that with having camera’s facing public places or other people’s houses. Definitely going to be applying all measures there as I’d of thought the camera will probably catch some of the park at the back of the garden n ideally I’d like to see into theirs a bit in case like @WillC says they throw poisoned food over. At the same time it’s cheeky to capture them on purpose, the joys as it’s happening.

I was talking to my sister earlier today and she said last night there were people trying to break into the house, she’s got a 5 month old baby and still lives at home with mum and dad. It was just past midnight when she was feeding the baby when she heard pounding on the front door and shouting “help me” but she said it didn’t seem or sound right, she went and woke mum and said about it the looked on the CCTV and noticed one at the door, one trying to get in the back door and one sat in a van right outside the house. Luckily and thankfully they didn’t open the door when she first started to shout. Just don’t understand people like that, the damage they cause to people

That’s awful, there’s some awful people out there. I remember going to me moms once n some idiots had broken in n it wasn’t what they’d taken more seeing they’d been through our personal stuff underwear n that. Make sure that your family have the cctv on cos they might come back

Yeah they did call the police and handed over the CCTV and it caught the number plate too so fingers crossed

It really is a horrible thing to go through, I hope your mum was ok, it happened down there road a few years ago and that’s when they had it installed, thank god
